As you can see, all it matters to them is who has the root access to Alexander and whose feudal lords killed more enemies. As a Macedonian I feel like being in a Monty Python sketch, needing to prove my national identity with some historical papyri to an angry Greek mob that thinks that Karatzaferis (a greek ultra-nationalist, with an ultra Turkish last name) is Aristotle's grand son, while my government sponsors zealots who oppose them in a similar fashion.

If Iran (or any other global naughty) fires a nuke at the Balkans, the rate of global stupidity would fall drastically.Zmejkonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-19001016464797921762009-09-01T10:16:15.242-07:002009-09-01T10:16:15.242-07:0024. Why did C.M Woodhouse state that foreign visitors to Greece (early 1800-century) had wished that the inhabitants of modern-day Greece be more like their ancestors from the antiquities?

25. Why was the "Greek" identity (based on linguistics) ONLY concentrated to a small core of merchant class people after Greek independence?

26. Why did C.M Woodhouse say (early 1800-century) that Greece included considerably fewer than half of those who regarded themselves as Greeks by virtue of their language ,their religion, and (less plausibly) their race?

27. Where are all the Slavs, Vlachs, Albanians, christian turks that invaded, resettled, reoccupied modern day Greek lands from 550 AD to 1900-century?

28. Did they get a stamp on their forehead stating that they are now ethnically and family related to the real ancient Greeks?

4. Why was much of the rural population of Greece speaking Albanian by the time of the creation of modern Greek state in the 1830s?

5. Why did most of the population prior to independence (1821) not consider themselves as ethnic "Greeks" or "Hellenes", but rather Christian orthodox in a multi-racial society?

6. Why was your "Megali Idea" invented and pushed by a NON-ethnic Greek Prime Minister?

7. Why was the entire fleet at independence dominated by Albanians, and not ethnic Greeks?

8. Explain to me why so many different authors over the centuries describe Athens and Old Greece as being populated by Arvanite (Albanians), Vlach and other Christians groups?

9. Explain to me how these Romaoi, Slavs, Arvanite, Vlach, Pomack, Roma, Jews, Franks, Venetians and other Christians, along with the Georgians, Armenians, prosfyges from Asia Minor, the Ponti as well as the "Greek Muslims" are all one ethnic group - and at the same time - the descendants of both the ancient Greeks and the ancient Macedonians?

10. Where are the Slavonic groups that lived in the Southern Balkans (Greece) for the better part of a millennium. You know, the ones who called the Peloponesos, "Morea"?

11. Why do so many different sources over the centuries distinguish among Macedonians, Greeks and Bulgarians?

12. Show me instances of the Turkish and Pontic Christians expressing a Macedonian ethnic heritage prior to their transplantation in the Balkans. Show me historical documents indicating that Greece was transplanting "Macedonians" from Asia Minor and the Pontus during the 1920s.

13. Explain to me why Athens and Attica required massive repopulation of Albanians from the 1300s onward?

14. Why was there a need for cultural regeneration within modern "greece"? (According to your historians Macedonia and Epirus has been "greek" for 4000 years. How so?)

15. Show me where there was a large "greek" population in Macedonia for the last 400 years?

16. Tell me how it is that the first governor/president of modern "greece" was an Albanian who could not speak a word of "greek" and his vice president was an Albanian who could not speak a word of "greek"?

17. Why is it that the leading defenders of Greek liberty at independence were largely Non-ethnic Greek?

18. Why did western European historians (such as Winckelmann, Goethe, Victor Hugo, Delacroix) need tell modern Greeks (during 1800-century) that they were descendants of ancient Greeks, if Greeks already knew this?

19. Why were travelers from western Europe (late 1700-century or early 1800-century) disappointed to see modern "Greeks" lacking the physical resemblance, and the absence of classical manners from the ancient Greeks?

20. Why was the "Greek" Orthodox church (main unifying institution of the Greeks) at the time of independence totally opposed classical children names such as Pericles, Miltiades, Aristoteles, and instead promoted traditional Christian names for children?

21. Why did 1700-1800 century Greek intellectuals not consider ancient Macedonia to be part of the ancient “Greek” world, but rather as conquers of the Greeks?

22. Why did famous Venizelos (early 1900-century) say that a substantial portion of the Greek population uses ALBANIAN as its mother tongue, and is, consequently, in all probability, of Albanian origin?

23. Why did C.M Woodhouse (British servant during Greek independence) state that people (foreign visitors) loved the Greece of their dreams: the land, the language, the antiquities, but NOT the people?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-46567604353499431872009-09-01T09:23:57.592-07:002009-09-01T09:23:57.592-07:00Here are some more references to Macedonians durin...Here are some more references to Macedonians during 1800-century.
---------------------------

THE ORIENTAL HERALD

GENERAL LITERATURE

VOL. How can a language have enemies? And why would you even need to mention something like that when posting about new translations? This isn't a political debate, so keep politics out of it.

But if everyone here really wants to argue politics, let me say this. Whether or not Macedonia was or wasn't Slavic before the 6th century is pointless. The fact of the matter is, Slavic peoples migrated to the south, mixed with the native Macedonians, and created a new people. And this new people has the right to call itself whatever it wants and the Greeks have no say in that. They have no right demanding that other cultures change their name because Greece says so. The old Macedonia or Macedon, is gone, it died long ago. So lets stop arguing over history and face the modern day fact that Macedonians do exist, have their own culture, and will continue to exist for many centuries. "Macedonia" as we once knew it, is no longer Greek, but Slavic. The Slavs took over, and the Greeks just have to get use to that. There's 500 million Slavs worldwide and only 12 million Greeks, so if the Greeks really want to start a fight with Macedonia and it's Slav brothers, let them do so, but it will be a battle they will lose.

МАКЕДОНИЈА ЗАСЕКОГАШ!
