Chrome doesn't keep it constantly live the way Firefox does, because it runs each tab as a separate process. So it will tell you there is a new message, except when you click on the Gmail tab, your screen gets stuck and takes awhile to refresh, because it's like switching to another program. This happens to me in gchat too, within my gmail window, I will go to switch tabs and answer someone and my cursor gets stuck.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-78018503901030548152009-06-10T07:00:09.675-07:002009-06-10T07:00:09.675-07:00Seems to me Google webmail routinely crashes IE8, ...Seems to me Google webmail routinely crashes IE8, and Hotmail routinely crashes Chrome. Otherwise both work pretty nearly flawlessly and both very quickly, with no real distinguishable difference in speed between the two on my install.

Makes me think it isn't a problem with either browser. Just the respective companies are configuring their webmail pages not to be compatible with the other's browser. Competition is getting dirty. It's not perception, is just because Chrome is the only browser which currently compiles Javascript (v8) and Gmail uses Javascript heavily. Firefox is going to have a similar feature, with 3.5.
Microsoft propaganda about cnn.com or basic sites loading faster or equally fast is misleading, sites using complex Javascript will load faster with Firefox or Chrome. Microsoft doesn't care as much about Javascript because they focus on their propetary Silverlight add-on to provide complex interfaces, and they will be able to impose that due to their dominance.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-11534220370701435492009-05-01T00:05:00.000-07:002009-05-01T00:05:00.000-07:00Yes i am totally agree with this gmail run a bit f...Yes i am totally agree with this gmail run a bit faster on chroma.Colon Cleansehttp://www.hilarysweightloss.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-67269026382612823702009-05-01T00:01:00.000-07:002009-05-01T00:01:00.000-07:00I'm just pissy because Mac-support was left out in...I'm just pissy because Mac-support was left out in the cold. Processor, RAM, and even hard-drive type and RPM can all make a difference. There's also a huge difference between pulling something up in Google Chrome installed on a fresh Windows install with nothing else running, and pulling something up in Google Chrome on a computer that's been used and abused with a bunch of apps and background processes running.

And, like others have said, are we comparing this to a vanilla install of Firefox or Firefox with a bunch of extensions installed? Vanilla Firefox may be just as fast but no one runs it like that, whereas that's the only way Google Chrome can be run, since it doesn't support extensions currently.

Then again, maybe I'm just pissy because Mac-support was left out in the cold. Maybe most of the world is using windows, but most of the code monkeys are using a Mac or Linux.Chris Pratthttp://www.chrisdpratt.comnoreply@blogger.com
