Now it's come here and there no longer appears to be an easy way to get my screen space back.

At least an option to disable it (or move it to the top) would be nice. As it is it just feels like it's being rammed down our throats. Maybe some users have a use for it over there, but I don't--everything listed on it is already visible on the page anyway--and I'd much rather have the screen real estate.

Bad move IMHO on Google's part, and definitely bad optics for them to just keep bullheadedly shoving forward with it.Torbennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-12899014998467559762009-08-05T01:23:25.169-07:002009-08-05T01:23:25.169-07:00*sigh*...luckily one punter above gave me the answ...*sigh*...luckily one punter above gave me the answer...change to English (UK) and things go back to normal.

Shame on you Google.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-85052530992036627132009-07-25T01:25:28.921-07:002009-07-25T01:25:28.921-07:00Well, it's just happened to me in the UK. It's really offensive to see virtually a whole column - to the left of the three I use to display widgets - sat there doing nothing to show a tab I will not under any circumstances need to use.

I see other poor schmucks have had this problem for nearly a year; clearly Google don't give a sh!t because they are still imposing it as part of a global roll-out. Yay!!!

I still would prefer at least an option to put the tabs back across the top. I actually have a bunch of tabs and I have to scroll down to get to one or two of them whereas they were all accessible right there on the top before.

Would also like the ability to rename a tab I'm already at without having to go to it's edit page. We used to be able to just double click the tab name right there to rename it. It was convenient, especially if you just dragged and dropped your gadgets around to reorganize things a little.

Also would prefer if, when creating a brand new tab, we'd have the option right then to at least specify the column format of the tab being created. It's repetitive to have to create a tab, then edit it to do only that.

Finally, the ability to add simple feed urls (90% of what I use are simple blog/news feeds) right on the page somewhere (for the currently active tab, of course) would be a lot handier than the extra step of having to go to the "Add stuff" page. If I already have the URL of what I want to add (stored in my clipboard), it would be nice to be able to do add it right there on the tab where I want it placed, then drag it into final position.

As a dialup user (because my area does not have any reasonable higher speed alternatives available) it would be very helpful if anything that >>could<< theoretically be streamlined and done right on the iGoogle active tab page >>was<< available that way. I don't like having to load the edit tab page, do stuff, then return back to the iGoogle page ad infinitum. Way too much back and forth for stuff that could be done in place for the most part.

Thanks. At least there's some indication of slow progress with the drag'n'drop functionality finally restored. Maybe some folks at Google are listening after all?...

I sure hope so.Dimension Skipperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05392348422733549988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-5986324457054375532008-11-08T19:44:00.000-08:002008-11-08T19:44:00.000-08:00How did this ever get out of testing? While I don't hate the sidebar as much as some of you (my screen is 1900x1200), I agree it is annoying. A list of feeds, many of which read as "http://feeds/feed..." in a narrow, unresizable column does not do me much good.

But it's the inability to move items between tabs that is really driving me crazy. The worst for me are the Home tab taking up all that room and moving things off-center; the deletion of the plus and minus icons to hide or show sections replaced with the slow drop-down to "Expand/Hide This Gadget" and the forced preview of email content - I don't want that visible!
