Use a filter, apply a label 'x' to every email from your buddy 'x' and then just use the list of labels on the left to see every email from x. Just like a folder. Except, you can also classify other ways without duplicating the email into multiple folders.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11248482485256081286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-15983170494702678372012-08-06T17:40:43.199-07:002012-08-06T17:40:43.199-07:00Create a rule that automatically tags each email f...Create a rule that automatically tags each email from x with the tag x. And I guess Gmail user...This is an ancient thread. And I guess Gmail users have given up trying to get Google's (Gmail's) ear. But I will post here anyway...

I think it is almost perverse of Gmail to force users to conform to something that is so user unfriendly. In this context Gmail is behaving like a government bureaucrat who is comnpletely unyielding simply because the bureaucrat wants to do as (s)he pleases regardless whether or not it fulfils the purpose of her/his role. This is exactly what Gmail is doing.

I have been with Gmail right from the beginning when it started out with sign-ups for Gmail invitations. But believe it or not since then only about 5%-10% of emails are routed through Gmail. And these emails are not the significant ones. The reason I go this way is Gmail's counterintuitive UI, plain and simple.

To make my point I would like to give an example to show how counterintuitive Gmail's labels feature is. I get emails from "x". Over the years my emails from "x" run into 100+ emails. And they are scattered all over. I need to do a search to get all of them together so I can look at how my interaction with "x' has been over the year or years. I get all of "x"s emails in my search result. When I check something else, my emails from "x" have got scattered all over returning to their original locations because I choose to keep my emails sorted by latest first.

If I had a folder in which I can keep all my emails from "x" well then I have no other logistics to contend with. As I can browse through all the emails from or to "x" without going through the rigmarole of searches for which one has to labor.

There's my penny's worth. But is Google listening??????????? That is the million dollar question. And if it is listening, is it going to do something about this pernicious counterintuitive UI.

Thanks!!Birajhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05041882223562624875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-88525034169494774882011-11-28T22:30:38.270-08:002011-11-28T22:30:38.270-08:00The real problem is, in 21st century people like t...The real problem is, in 21st century people like to not be organnized Most peple prefer a dezoranized world and try to force us to be like us. I...It's not about the labels themselves for me. It is about how my main page is organized. I prefer Gmail for safety reasons but folders create a filing system. In Hotmail I had folders for certain associates, friends, bills, recipes etc.. and things were moved out of my way. In Gmail linked accounts (in particular)everything shows up. It's not that it's confusing, it's just not "tidy."
And for some reason, Gmail won't stop deciding what's "important" to me! So, we'll agree to disagree here. Folders are great for some, labels for others, Gmail is great for all either way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-57964699668210279862011-05-21T13:35:21.467-07:002011-05-21T13:35:21.467-07:00grr...
