For me it does not work with one parent Gmail account + one child Google Apps account - it does not save the l/p of the child account.

Multiple sign-in are enabled on both accounts.

What is the problem?

So...great. Only it doesn't work, even on Google's main page. I sign in as my main account, and I have properly linked my other account to it. I can click on the drop down menu, click on the other name, and voila, it says I'm on account number 2! But wait, am I really?!

ANYWHERE I go, including just reloading Google itself, returns me to my "default account." If I go ANYWHERE and return to Google, I am AGAIN on account number 1. I can run a search as account number 2, but the minute I click any link, I'm back to my first account. This includes Google's main page.

I know this is supposed to work only on certain Google pages, and those pages are the very ones that it does not work on! It constantly defaults back to my first account. Is there some setting I haven't fiddled with yet, like a "actually use the feature you wanted to use" or a "Oh, wait, you were serious?" button?

I used to have all my Google services using my personal email address and in late June, Google insisted that I "migrate" (separate my accounts) which now means I *must* logout of my gmail if I want to use Google+ or Youtube, and vice versa.

This is seriously inconvenient, despite both accounts being set to 'allow multiple sign-ins'. So if a friend wants to Googlechat with me, I have to logout to check my email.

What is more disappointing is that I had a paid account with Google, and still Google refused to assist me. I'm going back to using Vimeo and Facebook. I'm seriously frustrated with Google.

@Russel and @annonymous: you can use the personal and work accounts next to each other the old way you are used to. Just split the personal account to different browser, e.g. use Firefox for working accounts and Chrome for private stuff. I know it's not like switching two tabs in single window but I also understand why google decided to do it this way (and many people would agree with me I guess). It's a workaround but it's quite easy and almost seamless.

What I don't understand is how to log off one account only. Usually when I'm signed to my accounts and my wife is too lazy to turn on her own computer, she logs as one additional account to mine. When she's leaving and uses Log off, it logs out all my accounts. This is quite annoying especially with regard to the second option you have there for logging off all accounts. Well both do the same thing for me and I don't see any reason why.

It does work, but only for a small number of services (Gmail, Calendar, Reader, Voice). You can't use multiple sign-in for Adsense, Adwords, Analytics and you can't transfer your data to a different account. In Analytics you can give admin permission to a different account, which is almost like transfering your data to that account. The same goes for Adwords: http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=44500 It's important to keep in mind that you're not allowed to have more than one Adsense account.

I agree completely with Russel and the anonymous poster, who predicted that Google's decision to merge Google Apps IDM into overall Google Account IDM would be a disaster. It could have worked if their "multi sign-in regime" had supported more apps than just Mail, Calendar and Reader. But somehow they slept through a year without adding multi-signin support for any apps despite Todd Vierling himself predicting that support for more apps would come before the end of 2010.

I'm currently looking into switching my private e-mail, calendar and docs to a competitor such as Zoho or something privately hosted as I absolutely cannot be bothered with having to sign out of my private Google Account to view documents in the company account and vice versa.

What a clunky feature.

Up until 24 hours ago, I was able to have multiple Google Apps Mail sessions open in their own tabs. This is far superior than a "switch user" hack, even if the latter did work properly (which it doesn't seem to).

Now the service has been "upgraded" and the this no longer works.

Being able to run multiple logins in separate tabs is far superior to a fiddly "switch user" hack, even if the latter did work properly (which it doesn't seem to).

Well, it works for me. I have a couple gmail accounts that I use for a couple of eBay accounts. I like to be able to check both without having to sign in and out. Some of the limitations aren't an issue for me as this isn't my main email account.

So I'm not sure I'd use this feature for my main email account, but for eBay, shopping, etc accounts - it's nice to have.
