If you installed Google's photo screensaver but you can't find MediaRSS feeds to add, Framechannel lets you create a feed from more than 200 channels of photos that include NASA's photo of the day, travel pictures, images from National Geographic, news and weather. You have to create an account, select your favorite content and copy the URL of your feed. Then add the feed to Google's screensaver. The cool thing is that the URL of the feed remains the same even if you add or remove a channel.
For those who don't want to install Google Screensaver, there are alternative programs or plug-ins for Windows and Mac.
Fairly cool, however the "LuckyOliver Annoying Watermark" is irritating enough to avoid this feed. I assume I'm supposed to pay to remove the watermark, however I wasn't impressed enough to waste money on a screensaver.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll try it yet again. Anybody have an Interestingness feed that works?
ReplyDeleteNevermind, uninstalling again.
ReplyDeleteThe Google screen saver still has a couple faults I've bemoaned before:
Every time it starts I see the same photos.
Runs through folders, or feeds in this case, consecutively, rather than drawing from them variously.
It's a great idea though, and will be nice someday. Perhaps Yahoo will put out their own.
Just in case someone else wants it I did find this somewhat working feed.
how do i get these samples to stop popping up & off this pc ?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on this one:

Does anybody know if there are any museums participating in this "feed" type of screensaver program? I'd love to see famous works of art from museum collections around the world. Well that's my idea, or request. If you know of something like this, please share with everybody.
ReplyDeleteIt works fine. I enjoy how with my two 19 inch monitors it will display a different picture on each one.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I like the way it works with my dual monitor setup, there seems to be a bug that causes the program to try and close either Outlook or my browser (whichever application is on tip) whenever I try to close the screensaver.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else experienced this?
I found that with some Flickr photo feeds, you need to add "&format=rss_200" to the end of the URL to actually have it work.
ReplyDeleteHello All...
ReplyDeleteOnce the timer goes up for screen saver i see only a black monitor and the pics are not showing up... I like the pics in google's screen saver. I dunno why this happening... Please suggest me a solution.
Regards
None of these 'channel feeds' work. I immediately get the message from Google Screensaver that the "feed does not appear to have any images".
ReplyDeleteDo I need to alter the url somehow?
Guess no one from Google pays attention to their own pages?
ReplyDeleteI found this link and copied a lot of feed addresses from it.

Google sucks in the support department
ReplyDeleteI like the original pictures and want some more, but with all of the dissatified users, I will refrain from trying to get more picture or feeds. Hope that I don't get too bored with the originals.
ReplyDeleteDoes this really, truly not work at all? If so, pretty sh*tty...
ReplyDeleteWorks great with flickr feeds, if you append &format=rss_200 to the end of the feed-link. (Just as previous post says)
ReplyDeleteHELP!! I set up the framechannel account and added stuff now how do i copy this URL thing to my Google screen saver thing???
ReplyDeleteTry one of our photo feeds with the Google Screensaver... works beautifully! http://feeds.nph.org/nph_photos_en
ReplyDeleteMany more feeds at http://www.nph.org/ml/contact/feeds.php
> Try one of our photo feeds with the Google Screensaver... works beautifully!
ReplyDeleteBecause you really want to be caught with a screen saver that displays little children..?
Google screen saver installed itself and runs the same photos on my computer without my consent. I do not know how to change the screensaver. Google may have done this when I created a google account. I like the concept of the screensaver though--however I would like it better if the screensaver selected pictures at random from my thousands of photo instead of the same pics over and over.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Screensaver is now a feature of Picasa.
ReplyDeleteI agree with anymous of Oct. 19. There are screesaver pictures that I DID NOT install. How do I get them off? And how can I install pictures on my screensaver that I want?
ReplyDeleteHow do I get an answer to my complaint of deleting pictures that I do no want?
ReplyDeleteHello I am from the future, many newest feed doesn't fit with the program only some from this site, such as http://feeds.nph.org/nph_photos_en
