It's also a way to encourage developers to add their apps to the Chrome Web Store. I don't think it's a reasonable option, but I haven't seen developers complaining about this.Alex Chituhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02618542750965508582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-12353412691232429742011-09-01T14:16:20.569-07:002011-09-01T14:16:20.569-07:00I see why they'd have that limit but... wouldn...I see why they'd have that limit but... wouldn't it be a better idea to ask the user if this or that website wants to use more than 5 MB of data?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-28936740439663841292011-09-01T10:09:39.548-07:002011-09-01T10:09:39.548-07:00@Anon:

The only way to circumvent this limitation in Chrome is to install an app or an extension. Other browsers allow any site to use unlimited storage or ask users for permission (Firefox).Alex Chituhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02618542750965508582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-76576586568425554402011-09-01T08:40:45.512-07:002011-09-01T08:40:45.512-07:00That's a useless app. Even iCal does a better ...That's a useless app. Even iCal does a better job :-\

Come on, Google, you can do better than that.

Oh, and why does it have to be in an App instead of in the normal browser usage?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-34085150152365611612011-09-01T08:03:31.625-07:002011-09-01T08:03:31.625-07:00WebSQL DB is supported by Chrome, Safari and Opera...WebSQL DB is supported by Chrome, Safari and Opera.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_SQL_DatabaseAlex Chituhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02618542750965508582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-63280815219011350092011-09-01T07:46:33.161-07:002011-09-01T07:46:33.161-07:00Just so you know, I checked and it looks like GCal...Just so you know, I checked and it looks like GCal's offline mode uses a combination of the WebSQLdb and appcache HTML5 technologies. Appcache is supported in IE9, Firefox and Chrome I believe and allows the app to store essential resources like images and stuff, while the WebSQLdb is _only_ supported by Chrome, and GCal uses it to store preferences, and other essential data.

The offline mode would be useless without the DB support, therefore Google can't possibly support any browser besides Chrome. It's not a favoring of their own technology, it's just that Chrome supports more technologies essential to this kind of stuff.Jordon Wiihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11615149281538910719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18157064.post-60616885618344470152011-09-01T07:00:39.785-07:002011-09-01T07:00:39.785-07:00This is how Offline Gmail should have been.
