Marissa Mayer, VP, Search Products and User Experience at Google confesses to CNN Money that she doesn't use Gmail for her business mail.
"I don't feel overwhelmed with information. I really like it. I use Gmail for my personal e-mail -- 15 to 20 e-mails a day -- but on my work e-mail I get as many as 700 to 800 a day, so I need something really fast. I use an e-mail application called Pine, a Linux-based utility I started using in college. It's a very simple text-based mailer in a crunchy little terminal window with Courier fonts. I do marathon e-mail catch-up sessions, sometimes on a Saturday or Sunday. I'll just sit down and do e-mail for ten to 14 hours straight."
Pine is a mail program developed at the University of Washington. It has a lot of keyboard shortcuts and countless ways to sort, shuffle, and sift through your email.
Googlebombing 'failure'
ReplyDeleteMarissa Mayer quotes.
To Google,
You believe that, "Pranks like this may be distracting to some, but they don't affect the overall quality of our search service, whose objectivity, as always, remains the core of our mission."
I and others vehemently disagree!
How are we to believe your results when you allow what you knowingly deem a prank?
You are willing to sacrifice the integrity of your data search by not correcting the flaw.
You are compromising the "quality of our search service"
Your search engine will be deemed corrupt and flawed if you knowingly allow these "pranks".

I sent A Proposal direct to Marissa@google.com
ReplyDeletePlease note it
with thank
10 to 14 hours of emailing on a Saturday or Sunday?
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought I didn't have a life!
LOL
Dear Ms. Mayers,
ReplyDeleteI have written two emails to you (I use gmail, myself) and I used your address as "Marissa@google.com" and I have gotten no answers. Maybe I am not in your 14 hours session on the week-ends, but I had a great idea for Google and I am getting "no" response. I will keep trying, but I always remembered what you said about "ordinary" things etc., and I am an ordinary person who has a unique idea, and I can't get into anybody's email system although you and all your employees have wonderful pictures and bios, but you can't talk to anybody. That is discouraging, but I will keep trying.
Sincerely,
EC

I thought posting someone's email online (esp. without their permission) was just plain evil... how would you like i a if yours was posted online as a ready gift to spammers?
ReplyDeleteEC they probably laughed it off, deal with it. :P
ReplyDeletehi Marissa
ReplyDeletei am a die hard fan of Google since long time and using mail and lot of applications from Google. recently i found out that none of your authentication module detect dot(.) in the user name which create huge anomaly among users.
so mail delivery system can also face problem with it.
