Not true, it still pops up and you have to click "OK". Just switch to Google Talk, people! It's got a built in notifier, plus integration with Talk and your contact list.

  6. Are you sure you don't use Gmail Notifier, the third-party Firefox extension? If you do, the extension can be uninstalled from Tools > Add-ons.

  7. Thanks, Alex -- Gmail Notifier does not appear in my list o' FF Add-Ons.

The icon looks like a little gray envelope in the system tray. It pops up a little box telling me about new gmails.

But I recently installed Google Talk which has its own notifier, so now I'm being over-notified.

  8. Try reinstalling the application and then go to Add/remove programs. If you still can't find it, close the Notifier, go to Start > Run, type msconfig and disable Gmail from the list of startup items.

  9. Thanks, Alex.

If I was more observant then I would have seen that the popup displays the Mozilla Thunderbird logo, and that TB has its own notifier which can be turned off an on under Tools > Options > General.

    My bad.

  11. I am trying to uninstall Gmail Notifier because the envelop symbol is constantly showing 'checking mail'. However, when I go into Control Panel and 'uninstall' Notifier, I get the 'Uninstalling' popup with: Execute: "C:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier\gnotify.exe" -unregister
However, the green progress never gets by the start so I have been unable to uninstall the notifier from this Vista system. Anybody have any solutions?
