Google Maps shows a new link at the top of the screen called "
Saved Location". This feature is available in all Google Maps versions.
You can save your searches, add a label to the locations, choose your location by default. Google Suggest is built-in: in this example (screenshot), if you type "G", Google Maps allows you to select directly
Googleplex or
Google France.
These features have already been available on Google Maps' competitors for a while...
By the way, you know a tag in the query to say to Google Maps : "go to Label #1" ?
ReplyDeleteFor example, if I saved a place "Buddy1" and I want to go there, I would have to go into saved locations and then select Buddy1. A tag saying it is one of my saved locations would be so nice. Better would be that fields of locations have some kind of Google Suggest extension to show us our saved locations sorted by what we are typing. Any idea ?
OK, here, it's Friday night so I am tired. Of course, Google did think of the Google Suggest thing. How I dare think something else from the big G ??? Once again, sorry.
ReplyDeleteI tryed it an it doesnt work for me.
ReplyDeleteI dont see any option to save the location and when i click saved locations i get a blank white page with a text entry form...

You must be logged to your google account.
ReplyDeleteNote : on Google Maps Mobile, you can see that your favourite locations are displayed by stars.
Wow, yea. Its about time Google has done SOMETHING to their maps.. Windows Live Local, and Yahoo Maps have had more features than Google Maps for almost a year now!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hate it how it automatically saves EVERY location by default. It shouldn't save any location by default, but put a link in the location pop-up sayin "Save this location".
Oh well..
Maybe they'll get this right in their next update in early 2007.
Well you're given the option to save locations as there's a box where you can enable or disable "Enable auto-saving of location."
ReplyDeleteSimply uncheck the box next to "Enable auto-saving of locations". I am excited that they finally added this feature I have been waiting!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great feature and so simple. I have been wondering when they were going to add something like this. I hope they make some updates to it soon to make it more useable.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to get directly to the saved locations without using such a long url:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.google.com/maphp?ie=UTF8&hl=en&sidr=1
?
And an IP plotter...
ReplyDeleteSaved Locations is a great help but what would be really helpful is if I could tag the address right where it shows me the callout with the 'To Here' and 'From here' options.
ReplyDeleteSaved Locations has DISAPPEARED from my Google Maps?? - Do not see Saved Locations anywhere - Sign in and do not see it- What happened??
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't disappeared. Click on the arrow next to the search box to see a list of recent locations. To edit the locations or to add other locations, click on "Edit saved locations".
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you simply right click and save a location? It's like they go out of their way to make this product hard to use. Mine autosaves but never gets the location exactly right. This isn't very user friendly but better than nothing I guess.
ReplyDeleteDoes Google limit the number of saved locations (say to about 100) for an individual account? I previously ran into that problem and have encountered it again now that my list of saved locations stretches out. I typically eliminate saved locations that I no longer use, but they still add up.
ReplyDelete@Ionut Alex Chitu: I notice that sometimes the arrow next to the search box doesn't show up! Is there any rhyme or reason to this?
ReplyDelete@Ionut - thanks for the tip, I had lost it! Not very obvious though.
ReplyDeletehi, i want to save my school name on google earth but i dont know how it is done..so can u give me some idea for that task..
