9/11

I remember that 5 years ago I was watching TV and the program was interrupted by a breaking news. A news that seemed hard to believe back then, but changed a lot of things in the following years. I was scared when I realized it was true and I think after 9/11 fear sneaked into our lives more often.

[ The film is called "7 Days in September" and shows the stories of 28 people affected by 9/11. Director Steven Rosenbaum led the effort that the New York Times described as "Reconstruct(ing) the emotional geography of New York." The film is a rare human look at the emotions, passions, and pain that followed the attacks on the World Trade Center. ]

  1. As a citizen of the United States I believe that we should not fear these kind if incidents but we should keep the anger that we felt on that day and the following days in the backs of our minds . If we do that we will not longer become complacent and forget how it feels to see our fellow citizens become victims and in turn we will not be awe struck if we are faced with terrorism. Always hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst! God Bless America!

  3. ..."Reconstruct(ing) the emotional geography of New York."...

Interesting to see the term 'emotional geographies'. I wonder what most people think that means. Social geography gets very little air time, so I think people will either grasp the meaning intuitively, or puzzle over and/or ignore the term.

  4. The rest of the world thought "It was only matter of time." Many nations that had taken part in a recent war - the WW:s for instance - felt that USA overreacted. After all if you look at the body count of the WTC terror attack and compare it to casualties of WW1 and 2 you will notice that the incident in New York was just a drop in the ocean.

Another common opinion is "They asked for it". USA has for years supported different terrorist groups (yes, also Bin Laden) depending on their strategic goals. So USA actually contributed to strengthening many terrorist groups, that today pose a serious threat to world peace. Besides the amount of civilians that USA have killed in their military operations, in modern times, is huge. A state just couldn't be more provocative - well, this is the consequences

For instance The International Court of Justice found that the United States had violated international law by supporting Contra guerrillas in their war against the Nicaraguan government and by mining Nicaragua's harbors. The Court stated that the United States had been involved in the "unlawful use of force". There is no other state that have got such a conviction. So the USA is actually the only official terrorist state in the world.

And why should the whole world honor those few thousand American victims with a quiet minute? The Americans certainly don't seem to care of the tens of thousand of civilian victims that their army have killed.
