Now that Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 is available for everyone, the new operating system is getting closer to launch. Looking at the features and costs, I still fail to see the need for a resource-hungry Windows XP that has a fancy interface, "Google Desktop", some new applications and a better security.

Tips and tricks
a friend of mine says: the price point on Vista is insane. if anything has ever contributed to piracy - that's it. I can get a whole PC from Dell for $400 - monitor, printer and all.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way, i really don't see any need for me to get Vista at all.
ReplyDeleteWindows XP does me fine, and Linux as well.
But all that "flashy" look is overrated and i could get the exact same on XP by easily writing my own Litestep theme.
The transparency nonsense is laughable!
I mean COME ON, you practically need a brand spanking new graphics card to run Aero!
And even then its still pretty horrible!
XP only needed a tiny little tweak to get transparency working correctly, theres AlphaXP that does it as well (shareware though)
I feel this Windows will be the last one i use, ever (unless i am kinda forced to if its the only OS i have available at the time)
The prices for Vista are not much more than comparable versions of XP. Of course you will get it cheaper from OEMs, and that is where the majority of consumers will get it from anyway.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that ignorance overcomes so many people who focus on the new UI, and just general short-sightedness on utilization of new technologies.
