Import del.icio.us Bookmarks into Google Bookmarks

Mihai Parparita from Google has written a(nother) cool script that allows you to add the bookmarks from del.ico.us to Google Bookmarks. The live version is available on his site.

Unlike del.icio.us, Google Bookmarks keeps your favorite web pages private and lets you search their content. You can manage your bookmarks from the site, using Google Toolbar for IE or using some unofficial Firefox extensions.

    del.icio.us allows you to store all your bookmarks privately if you really want to (not that anyone would...)

    It really does work! I had to type in my delicious password, so I set up a temporary delicious password before running the script. I didn't have to type in my google password. The script seemed to have used the currently logged in google account.
    And while I prefer the interface of delicious, searching my own stuff on delicious or even selecting multiple tags is simply unusably slow as of now :(

    I think it's a good idea but the implementation didn't work for me either. I've ~1440 links on del.icio.us, the importing succeeded on ~130 links as if there weren't any others. I also tried deleting a few links from the originals, that were imported, but further attemps at importing were met with a message that there weren't any new links to be imported.

    Thus, for the time being I used a method that worked - del.ico.us -> settings -> export/backup links -> saved the file on my laptop, opened a browser (IE, but could have been firefox as well) -> Tools (check "toolbar") -> File -> Import/export and chose the same file.

    Now all of them were on IE bookmarks from which the Google toolbar import works perfectly.

    It looks like the script is broken now. Its output only has the form and doesn't get to the point where it starts printing JSON data.

    Shouldn't this feature be built into the google bookmarks thing? Import? :)

    Somehow this comment got posted to the wrong thread. Odd.

    While the tagging, bookmarklet and general UI are very polished and I generally like google bookmarks the reason I think people use del.icio.us is BECAUSE it is social.

    Also, this post is misleading. Delicious has all kinds of privacy controls.

    The Python code is available at Mihai Parparita's page. There's no API for Google Bookmarks (just a way to export them as a HTML file and a way to import bookmarks using a POST).

    The programs just imports part of my bookmarks, like 1150 from the 2500. I tried cleaning up, but it just imports about half. It says the other xxx have been saved, but they haven't. When i try to import those as well, i just end up importing the whole list (and thus the same first 11xx) all over.

    Too bad, delicious seems far more interesting now.

    Haven't been able to get this to work in the last couple days. Keeps spitting back an error about connecting to delicious. I hope this can be resolved soon, I could really use this script's help.

    Bad timing for the perl script to fail after the announcement of the demise of Delicious. I really wouldn't mine using Google Bookmarks, but only if I can find a way to import all my D-bookmarks.

    You can see if my old bookmarklet for importing from delicious to Google works for you. It's buried within a comment in the original post. I hadn't updated it until today to use https after Google Bookmarks moved away from http, so it should be okay now.

    It did work on all my 1995 bookmarks. But notes are not imported, so I'm searching for something I can do.
