PicLens, Full-Screen Slideshows for Image Sites

PicLens is a browser add-on that detaches the images from a web page and lets you explore them in interesting ways. The add-on, which is available for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari, works for a small number of sites: image search engines and photo sharing sites, as it requires to understand the structure of a web page.

PicLens is a great way to visualize the results from Google Image Search as a never-ending list of thumbnails. Once you find an interesting photo, you can double-click on it and view it in full-screen. PicLens can also create slideshows from Google Image Search's results so you can enjoy Dali's paintings or Google's doodles.

For Picasa Web Albums, the slideshow doesn't include captions or file names, but it lets you navigate inside an album. The slideshow also works for Picasa Web's search results and it shows the images in full-screen.

yeah, i agree, there should be a linux version, but if it is just a firefox add-on, wouldn't it be compatible with all platforms capable of firefox? i think you should try it out anyway, and see what happens!

  3. The plug-in is available for IE, Safari, Firefox (only Windows and Mac). From the FAQ:

<< Will PicLens support Linux anytime soon?
Our ideal plan is to eventually make our Firefox version work cross-platform, but its timing is not yet clear due to our current resource constraints. We're trying to make sure our currently supported platforms are fully stabilized and robust before supporting other platforms. We appreciate your support and understanding. >>

  4. Every time I use PicLens, it messes up my monitor's color profile set in Adobe Gamma! I have to restart to get it back. Anybody know why? Is there a fix or work-around?

LOVE it otherwise, just wish it didn't jack w/ my color.

  9. I've tried to convert the DLL files, into LIB files. I had thought that might be the key to getting a linux version. not sure if that helps or not.

  10. I've got it running on my vista machine, I love it but I just recently picked up a laptop and I'm running linux on it and if it helps to have more votes then:
Please add a linux version! :) have to admit it's the only firefox addon I can't live without. between google youtube and the random news and movie previews it loads up by default I hardly feel the need to even use my browser at all, that's an idea just make pic lens it's own browser? just a thought best of luck

  21. I agree people now a days are looking for a bug free/cheap solution to there computing needs and quite frankly Piclens is something the world needs on linux.

P.S. if piclens is low on resources why dont they just contact 'I dont know' canonical to take some weight off just make the code available we will do rest.
