Wallpaper Search

Let's use the latest features added to Google Image Search to find a beautiful wallpaper for your desktop.

1. Go to Google Image Search and click on "Advanced Image Search".

2. Enter your query in the first input box, for example: flower.

3. Select "photo content" from the list of content types.

4. Click on "Use my desktop size" to find images appropriate for your desktop.

5. Perform the search.

6. If you have a favorite color, click on "All colors" and pick one of the 12 options.

  1. Easier: Go to images.live.com, search for the image you want, then on the sidebar, select "Size > Desktop". (Sorry, Google, I love your websearch, email, calendar and feed reader services, but I have to admit that Live Image Search pwns Google Image Search.)

  7. I do a lot of image searching and while I do find this new option intriguing I would much rather have one of the following options:

For instance, If I need to find a square image of a slice of bread I'd like to be able to define a search with a ratio of 1:1 and be presented with a 100x100 image, a 640x640 image and (with the option to define how many precent of difference from the search ratio) an image that's 500x530.

Another interesting feature would be the ability to search not by color, but by background color. An algorithm which would find the dominant color not in the entire image but in a frame of about 10% at the edge of the image. In many cases this would result in a background color. This option would also feature the ability to search for a transparent background as in a GIF or PNG file.

Ever come across the perfect image in a Google search, but when you clicked on the thumbnail you found it was in poor quality or had a website's watermark or some addition to the original picture (like a mustache on the Mona Lisa). How about the ability to tell Google to find images that are as close to this image as possible, even if they are smaller or larger, as long as they have the same shapes in the same pattern...

I have an image, but would like to find a better quality version, or a slightly bigger version, or one that does not have the sites logo at the bottom. I'd like to upload or link to my image and have Google search for similar images.

How about searching for animated gifs?

How about searching for images with specific names? So you could search for results that have the words: diner, napkin, plate and the image file's name must contain "knife". No, the search for "knife.png" OR "knife.jpg" OR "knife.gif" approch doesn't cut it (pun intended), because it won't find knife_fork.png.

Live Search has the option to find squared images: slice of bread.

    Try TinEye.

This isn't exactly what you want, but you should use the inurl: operator. Example: inurl:penguin.

  11. yeah...
    this sucked!
my screen size is not the standard one and I don't get any good wallpapers when I try to search for some...so, instead I have to search for standard versions like 1280x1024....and that I can do by searching "wallpapers (critarea)"
so, this feature is just some sort of comic relief...not a big shot!
