Blogger Starts to Show Ads

Blogger started to display a block of contextual ads after publishing blog posts. Until now, Google's blogging platform didn't include ads and it was only monetized by making it easy for publishers to use AdSense ads.

It seems that Blogger followed the advice of Evan Williams, the co-founder of Pyra Labs, Blogger's parent company: "Put Ads in the App Interface: For example, the published landing page alone must get millions of views a day. And it's the perfect point for someone to go elsewhere. See if you can target it off what they wrote about. No one will mind (much). And strengthening your revenue story will strengthen your position in the company."

  1. When you look at all of the empty space that was there, and think about the points made in this article, it's a wonder that this wasn't done earlier.

But they won't be on your Blog, just on the Published pages.

Chances are you won't be doing much after publishing, and who knows, you might actually find something interesting, especially if they actually related the ads to what you just posted.
I have personally found some of the most useful software through ads.

  6. Yah.. I have noticed this yesterday when I was posting new content.

Goolge also made an important change in their popular social network ORKUT by swapping the positions of google ads and friends list in users homepage. This change might have already grabbed the attention of many orkut users and thus benefited lot of advertisers.

  9. Let's wait until the next phase of this change, we can not say anything now as everything behind this strategy is not clear yet.

  11. Email to use in blogger is automatically intended for adsense. You can not use gmail for blogger if you sign up adsense out of blogger.

  12. I have ad blinders, I have gotten where when I look at a page I don't even see the ads even if they are there.

As far as ads on the actual published blog, THAT I have a problem with.
That would probably rate a whole blog post.

  14. I think it's pretty distracting for me as a blogger to have that kind of ads on my panel, but hey, they owned everything! :)
