YouTube added a cool feature for those who watch long-form videos. If you're logged in, you watched at least one minute from a video that's longer than 20 minutes and there are more than 3 minutes left, then YouTube's player has a neat surprise for you: close the page and when you open it again, the player resumes where you left off watching.
It's a helpful addition, considering that not many desktop video players offer a similar feature.
Another change is that the HQ/HD flag is now sticky. Once you click on HQ or HD, YouTube will save the setting in a cookie and all the other videos will use the options, assuming that they have high-quality versions. "When you switch to view a video in high quality and lean back to enjoy the wide player experience, having to lean forward again to switch the experience back on, video after video, can be a real chore. Moving forward, your choice is sticky, meaning that when you go wide it will persist across your session."
Simple but useful.
ReplyDeleteI've got and idea about the Google mystery. On September the 5th, Google released a doodle that had a filename Go_gle, and on september the 15th Google released a doodle that had filename Goog_e. And both of the clues point to something Artistic, so if you take the letter A and join it with existing two letters you get O L A, wich means something in spanish. See for yourself on google translate:D:D
ReplyDeleteUm no. Hello in Spanish is "Hola". Sorry about commenting on such an old post, but I'm kinda a linguistics and spelling nut. Good try at thinking out of the box though!
DeleteGoogle wave ummm.... interesting theorem
ReplyDeletehaving to fastforward to where i left off in a long video when i return to a video after i leave leave is one of the biggest annoyances for me with video players. i'm happy about this one. (i also love when media players remember where i left off while watching a dvd)
ReplyDeleteNot working for me.
ReplyDeleteAlright. I did not read "more than 20 min" video. Ooops
ReplyDeleteFirst questio, how do we upload a 20-minute video to yotube?
ReplyDeleteI like this feature. It's especially good if you're watching an embedded video with a small window and on the clip to watch it on YouTube. Once you're on YouTube, the video will continue to play where you left off when watching on the embedded site.
ReplyDeleteyea
ReplyDeleteI wanted to suggest that

Yea, this is a much awaited feature. As far as desktop clients is concerned, my Dragon Player (http://www.dragonplayer.net/) has this functionality, but i guess YouTube is the first online player with the same.
ReplyDeleteThis will be a very useful addition to Youtube as l am always watching extra long videos and l could return to them after doing something else at a future time. So thank you Google and Youtube. G
ReplyDeleteSweet!
ReplyDeleteI like that feature except that it won't work for me because I clean all the Data after I close my Firefox :)
@JoeHobot
Yippee....... a great option... really youtube has a great feature and definitely it rocks all over... almost all will welcome this feature very warmly..!! That's really amazing.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to resume a youtube video from one page to another?
ReplyDeleteFor example I have a form landing page where a video starts. After the user submits the form I would like that thank you page to continue playing the video from where the user left off.
Is it possible to disable this option? Sometimes I've had enough of the 60 minute long video and close it. The next time I run the video, I want to watch it again from the beginning, not from where I left of last time.
ReplyDeleteI hate youtube
