"Starting today, attachments work just the way you would expect them to whether you are online or offline (with the exception that when you're offline you won't be able to include inline images). Just add the attachment and send your message. If you have Offline Gmail enabled, you'll notice that all your mail now goes through the outbox, regardless of whether you're online or offline. This allows Gmail to capture all attachments, even if you suddenly get disconnected from network," mentions Gmail's blog.
Offline Gmail is still a Gmail Labs feature and it requires Google Gears. If you use Google Chrome, Gears is already installed. The nice thing about Offline Gmail is that you can read recent conversations, compose messages and view your contacts even when you don't have Internet access.
Offline is great, but it would be great if it used Firefox's native offline storage instead of Gears.
ReplyDeleteNow all Google needs to do is fix Gears so that it work on Snow Leopard. It is a real pain not being able to work offline.
ReplyDeleteI'm on Snow Leopard and it works fine. Maybe you need to reinstall Gears.
ReplyDeleteYay, now fix gears for Snow Leopard 64-bit!
ReplyDelete(gears only works currently if you run Safari in 32-bit mode)
Google also released a Sneak Preview of calender scheduling yesterday too. That's very useful...but I haven't had the same good experience as on Exchange scheduling though.
ReplyDeleteIn the Google Wave preview you can drag file and drop it in wave so it is attached in wave and uploaded to the server. I don't understand why this feature is not available in Gmail, it is so usable and cool.
ReplyDeleteThis is sweet, have been looking for this feature for so long...especially for when on the train or similarly out and about..
ReplyDeleteVery difficult to choose the offline mode or inline pictures!
ReplyDeleteGreat! When it works properly. I'm always working from dodgy internet connections. Offline Gmail has made a big difference to me, but it made attaching documents a nightmare, even when the connection was good. Often I had to disable Offline just to be able to send an attachment.
ReplyDeleteThe new version is better. Attachments always appear to be added instantly - but when I try to send I often get "Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#014)" Again, that happens even when the connection is good. So far, refreshing the browser page has always cleared it.
I haven't try'd it yet but it looks ok and like it works.
