Import Your Maps in Google City Tours

Google City Tours, the service that generates walking tours for important cities, has a new feature that lets you import custom maps. After logging to a Google Account, you can go to the importing page and select one of your maps.

The service would more useful if you could customize a tour by reordering sights and defining constraints. Other features that seems to be missing: saving tours, sharing and printing tours.

Google City Tours will probably become a feature of Google Maps that will help you find more about a city and plan your trips.

  4. This sounds like a really cool feature to explorer your cities in different ways via these tours.

  5. Were the default tours built by Google or did they just pick something from their users' maps? I was decidedly unimpressed by the maps of NYC, Greenwich Village, London and Stockholm. At least I know those places well enough to know the tour maps suck. If I trusted their tours of unfamiliar cities, I'd really miss a lot.
GMAPS on a mobile should show what any GPS shows: point-of-interest in the area, by category.

  6. This would naturally mesh well with NextStop - hopefully Google will realize the potential synergies soon.

  9. I really like Google City Tours, especially because my Mom is coming to visit me in LA next month and I would love her to map out all the places we can walk to from her hotel :)
