That means you can upload photos less than 250 times and Google Buzz albums clutter the interface. Another issue is that storing photos in separate albums is inefficient and you can't delete the albums because your photos will no longer be available in Google Buzz.

ReplyDeleteI agree, the photo uploading limitations and some other stuff makes this and other Google services inefficient, but I think we have to be a little more patient with Google. Buzz is brand new, and we can't expect to have all the products to be perfect at lauch. Give Google some time to improve and evolve its (new) products, and they will eventually fix these bugs and also add new functionality to ther already existing products. Google is just taking a more step-by-step approach.

ReplyDeletebuzz is NOT losing it's buzz... just getting started I think. Finally, a Facebook without all those stupid games. Finally a Myspace without the pages that scroll to the right for a mile and load three songs at once. Google is definitely ON to something here. Let the kids play on those other sites. Many of my adult friends are happy that many of their favorite sites like Picasa and Blogger are merging together into one entity... Now all we need is an OS.

The fact that this completely arbitrary and pointless feature in PWA is now going to affect Google's new baby, Buzz, may finally force Google to do away with PWA album limits. Keep on fighting the good fight!
ReplyDeleteYea, I don't know why I'm so obsessed with Picasa not having those limits but I am. Sure, I could use Flickr or load my photos onto an Amazon S3 server, but I have this obsession with keeping everything under my gmail account. Maybe it's something in the water...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alex, we need to keep focus on a specific point: Google need to build its infrastructure on a programmatic basis. Google is a giant right now, not a start-up, million of users use its products (I pay for PWA).
ReplyDeleteFeedbacks are a great tool to achieve improvement but Google have to forecast user needs, be proactive. These mistakes are just lack of analysis. No excuse. My two cents.
Blogspot uses picasa space too, which is why it's always handy to create separate accounts for each blog you work with.
ReplyDeleteThe limits on Picasa make sense as without them there's no reason for anyone ever to upgrade to the paying version. Those people who do upgrade effectively have to fund all the R&D costs of the picasa client apps, and the operations costs of the picasa web services, so they are appreciated. I just choose not to be one of them, as flickr gets my money instead.
Thanks for pointing out the areas where Picasa web needs work. What is on my desktop and what is on Picasa web need to be able to sync with each other. Albums need to be 'tags' so that I upload a picture once (in a directory structure that mirrors my hard drive) and I can then put that picture into any album.
ReplyDeleteGoogle doesn't get it with Buzz, but that is for another post. Suffice it to say I meet family and friends on Facebook for a reason. Orkut and Buzz have nothing much to offer.
so 1 million photo in paid account. sounds good. 5 years of photos backup on picasa and I have 27000 photos (only)
ReplyDelete@SteveL - the problem is that if I choose to have a paid account with Picasa Web Albums, I have an album limit as well. If I agree to pay Google a ton of money, my PWA experience is severly limited - not by storage capacity - but by 1000 total albums. And you are forced to use albums. So there is a severe disconnect here.
