Google Doodle Notifier

If you picked a background image for Google's homepage, you probably noticed that Google uses a special white logo. Unfortunately, the customized homepage can't show the regular Google logo and Google doodles for special events.

That's the reason why Google shows a small notification icon next to the logo when there's a doodles you can't see.

When you click on the colorful icon, Google shows the doodle on a white background.

I wonder if Google will use full-page doodles for users who picked a background image.

  1. I've been using Yahoo Pipes to make an RSS feed of most of the Google Doodles for several months now, into Google Reader.

Admittedly, on days when the doodle is global, it does get a bit cluttered, But I prefer to know that the Google Doodle has changed on the day the change occurs, not 2-7 days later, in the fashion of the Official Google Doodle RSS feed/page.

  4. I see, if the search box doesn't have doodle above it, then the search engine won't work. :)

  5. If you have requested doodles and background images don't complain because the page loads too slowly.

  6. I thing it is weird how people complain about Google loading slowly if they have a background on. It might take a second longer for the background to load, but if you don't want to wait a second you can still search while it is loading.

I've been using an iGoogle widget for a while now...it displays the day's Google Doodle:

  10. For the last month or so, this has not been working! For example, I couldn't see the doodle today, Tuesday July 24.
