A video posted by Google shows the name of a new Google Docs feature: Google Punch. A "punch" is a Google Docs filetype, just like a document, a spreadsheet or a presentation.
Here's the video:
One of the definitions of the word "punch" is "an iced mixed drink usually containing alcohol and prepared for multiple servings; normally served in a punch bowl". Maybe Google Punch is a free-form document that lets you combine data from other documents, spreadsheets, presentations and forms. What do you think?
{ Thanks, Jeremy and Mark. }
rememeber microsoft binder ???
ReplyDeletea Google Spreadsheet video? Is that correct?
ReplyDeleteI would love so see a publisher page marker ish design tool. I so want to uninstall office on my pc
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be easily be able to run merges and combine spreadsheet functions in a doc like formate for easy presentations.
ReplyDeletewow. Google tops them all again.
ReplyDeleteI really have no idea, but I'm pretty stoked to find out.
ReplyDeleteIt's like Fruit Rollups . . .
And here’s the icon: icon_7_punch_large.png.
ReplyDeleteIts icon is most like Presentation. Like "to be shown on a screen"
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting, and if Google does it, at least slightly innovative, to say the least. Bring it on.
ReplyDeleteGoogle's new implementation of Facebook's "pokes" leave much to be desired.
ReplyDeletethanks bro for this information, visit back to download ebook gratis, please :)
ReplyDeleteThis video leaves a lot to be desired when viewing from an iPhone
ReplyDeleteatomic weight for propane: 13 lbs
ReplyDeleteThe icon is a person holding a glass of punch.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very aggressive file format
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting one. What's the next idea on Google Docs? I want Image Processor just like Picnik, but in HTML5.
ReplyDeleteis google wave being introduced into docs?
ReplyDeleteSeeing the quality of the video, I wouldn't be surprised if the new feature would be a screen recorder which automatically publishes to YouTube.
ReplyDeleteThe video doesn't mention "Google Punch"; it's about "Google Lookup" feature in spreadsheets.
ReplyDeletePunch is a word from India and it means 5 as in 5 ingredients in a drink. This kind of integrated document format is on the same track as JAZZ was for the Mac. It came out of Holland and then ended up in Calgary and then I lost track. Was and still is way ahead of Microsoft Office for integration. If GOOGLE can bring back JAZZ - good thing
ReplyDeleteJazz was good but Taligent/Apple/IBM OpenDoc and Microsoft's OLE where much better. The machines of the time where far too underpowered to realize the vision of these technologies.
ReplyDeleteOK, in old school animation, you used a system of punched holes located onto pegs to keep multiple drawings in register. Google punch is an animation tool using HTML5 .. Google goes after Adobe - move over Flash.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Docs, just can't be embeded anymore :(
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a html maker
ReplyDeleteI want an online database application that pulls from Base or Fusion Tables where we can create queries, forms and reports. Something to compete with Access, with online embed of forms. That would be the greatest tool on the Internet.
ReplyDeleteFor those wondering why this video: pause it at 0:09.
ReplyDeleteI wager Punch will be an "interactive" document format that mashes up Flash/HTML5 style interactivity and animation with the various Docs formats and other web based formats/media. Basically a conceptually simple authoring tool for producing interactive multimedia presentations. PowerPoint for Web 2.0, if you like.
ReplyDeleteSupporting Docs-style collaborative authoring within such a tool could produce some very interesting results.
The icon looks like a guy punching, with animation cell holes in the frame
ReplyDeleteso, animation document? flash?
