Google Chrome's ads have always been great, but this one is probably the only Google ad that could make you cry. It's a story about a father that emails his daughter photos and videos with her happy moments as she grows up. He uses Google services like Gmail, Picasa Web and YouTube, but the ad is not only about Chrome or Google: "the web is what you make of it".
Following the footsteps of Apple's FaceTime ads and Google's Search Stories, "Dear Sophie" could strike a chord with Google users and show how profound is Google's impact on your life.
Yep - I cried. As a father of two beautiful girls, 3.5yrs and 5mos, it's impossible not to. Well done, Google.
ReplyDeleteI feel you, anon. I personally fell short of tears. On the other hand, I confess I felt my heart strings tugged.
ReplyDeleteHomerun, Google and unknown ad agency. You knocked this one out of the park!
ReplyDelete"Google Chrome's ads have always been great, but this one is probably the only Google ad that could make you cry."
ReplyDeletePlease never write that again. Knowing that I already cried watching Google Search Stories, I knew this wasn't going to end well. I had tears in my eyes right off the bat.
how is it called an extension +1
ReplyDeletei did not find this emotional at all, i found it to be a good advert though, if anything this should help google attract new customers to services like google mail
ReplyDeleteExcept that chrome is not that old...
ReplyDelete@Hari. What are you talking about? Chrome is older than Atari . . .
ReplyDeleteNice Cute Baby. I really cried after seeing this ad
ReplyDeletei found it to be a good advert though,if anything this should help google attract new customers to services like google mail??
ReplyDeleteGreat ad google...very emotional...one of the few 'real' ads which is probably the best way to sell anything!!!
ReplyDeleteso how did he email his daughter? google has age restrictions on email account creation....
ReplyDeleteHow on earth was this emotional.
ReplyDeleteI also want to know how he emailed his daughter when you cannot get an email address from GMail for anyone younger than 13!!!! This makes a mockery of the whole ad. How can I email my daughter or son all the wonderful pictures and stories of them growing up when they can't have an email address. Ridiculous. G mail needs to find a way to provision for young people to email their grandparents and other family members with pictures and stories. My oldest is 6 and he can write so why can't he email ? Can he only use snail mail till he is 13?? Google...your ad is misleading at the least.
ReplyDeleteugh... its so obvious guys... The father made an account for himself and named it "dear.sophie.lee" There's not a restriction on how many accounts any one person can have-at least not to my knowledge and I have at least 2 (one for junk email)
DeleteUgh... It's so obvious guys... The dad made an account for himself and named it "dear.sophie.lee" for his daughter! When she's old enough he'll give her the account password for her to search through it as she likes. As far as I know Google doesn't limit how many accounts a single person may have. I personally have 2 (one for junk mail) It's not really rocket science. Create an extra account with your name and birthdate and name it "dear whatever your kids name is" as the username and when they come of age, give them the password so that they can access the account as they wish.
Delete13. It's the law. Google didn't make that up. :(
