Google Groups is the latest Google service redesigned to look like Google+. New buttons, new icons, new scrollbars, new search box and a smoother interface that makes Google's help forums look outdated.
Since the current Google Groups UI is inspired by Google Reader, we can expect to see a revamped Google Reader with a similar interface.
If you miss the small arrow that allowed you to hide the sidebar, use the "f" keyboard shortcut, which hides both the sidebar and the search box.
{ Thanks, Filipe, François and Elchanan. }
All these new interfaces need a compact mode - the dead space in these new looks makes them all but unusable on netbook sized screen res.
ReplyDeleteI love and spend as much time as I do in Google Reader as i do with Gmail. This, even with an iPhone/iPad sync app. It's essential Reader gets an update and works well.
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing scary talk about RSS being out of fashion and google killing off Reader. I truly hope this is not true - and that they have numbers which show we LOVE Reader.
Nice redesign. Through little direct integration between Google + 1 and Google groups and other services. May be that will come latter on this year or early next year.
ReplyDeleteThe redesign make the service more usable than it was before in my honest opinion.
They should add the 'display density' option to all of these.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Reader and Picasa are the only "big" ones left who are waiting for a redesign.
ReplyDeleteI'm not fond of these redesigns. It's all a white mess to me.
ReplyDeleteWhy do they choose to waste so much of my screen real estate ? We need to start charging them for rent.
ReplyDeleteI think they need to get rid and combine some of the features of Google Reader with Google+
ReplyDeleteI love the white spaces. They make the UI clean!
ReplyDeleteway to go Google, Facebook should have a tough time... the integrated google plus looks make Google more professional :-)
ReplyDeleteit is the right time though
Love the new interface but feel its occupying more of the space in my system...
ReplyDeleteAll these new interfaces need a compact mode - the dead space in these new looks makes them all but unusable on netbook sized screen res.
ReplyDeleteHi its really very nice blog, very useful information about latest Mobiles
ReplyDeleteI absolutely hate the new design. So much wasted space. Unusable on a small screen. Bring back the old design!
ReplyDeleteI would completely agree. In this interface so much space should not have been wasted. It should have been utilized for something useful info.
ReplyDeleteWell I definitely enjoyed reading it. This subject provided by you is very useful for me. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletesmall business web design
Now Google Reader waste space too.
ReplyDeleteThe new interface is a tablet interface but it's waste of space for laptop and netbook users.
A third of the screen is wasted by the toolbars.
Chrome has it right: do not waste space with toolbars. Why do Google web products take the opposite direction ?
So sad because they were good products and now they lost in usability.
Complaining to G about Usability is basically a waste of time people.
ReplyDeleteTrust me - based on experience dealing with some Google Employees involved ni Design (at fault!), all they do is sulk and take umbridge.
They cannot take criticism, they cannot take pointers and the concept that they got something wrong is utterly alien to those people.
Everyone tell 10 other people that you don't have to put up with google-arrogance and get the word out and someday a threshold will be reach and that company will have a huge downfall. STOP USING GOOGLE PRODUCTS there are other working non-annoying alternatives.
ReplyDeletegoogle groups are crazy slow dodgy anb overloaded
