Google Talk for Mobile Phones

I'm sure Google is working on this feature, but until they get this done, there's an open-source project that may help you. MGTalk is a Java midlet that lets you connect to any Jabber server, supports SSL connection, has a basic chat history and a Gmail notifier.

And if that client doesn't work for your mobile phone, you may try this modified version that works on any HTTP enabled network.

Before entering your Google credentials, remember this is a third-party application. As MGTalk is open-source, you can always check the code to make sure your password is safe and even recompile it.

  1. Awesome...seems to work great on my Nok9300. We've owned VeriChat for a couple of years now, so you'd think I'd be able to get a license key for it...but no. I tend to only talk to people on GTalk anyway, so this is great.

  2. can we use this MGTalk for talking to another user on the gtalk? If so is it charged or free?

  3. I have found an app called Skittle Google Mobile Instant Message, you can use it to chat to gmail contacts from your mobile phone. Its good cool features like preset messages, group messaging, etc.

Its works from all phones... you may emulate it on the PC using mpowerplayer or J2ME wireless toolkit.

Google MUC, Google IRC is antoher application also from the mobile phone called Skittle Group Chat, you may use it to chat to multiple friends all from your mobile phone.

    Visit http://wap064.tripod.com for this application

  8. Does it mean that we can make calls from Google Talk installed in our mobile phone? I mean without using the service provider, say Vodafone, can we make calls from gTalk in mobile and not get charged for the calls we make anywhere in the world (just as we do from our notebooks).

  9. No. You can't make phone calls with it. It's a Jabber client, not a full port of the Google Talk client, and anyway, Phone Service Providers tend to block any traffic which could be a phone conversation on their data connections.

  11. Thanks RandomCake,
I really wonder when will this kind of imagined application be available in our phones. May be some day when Google gets into business of what Vodafone does. Well thanks for your response.

  23. I'm using minifring (www.fring.com) on my Sony Ericsson K610i (and my girlfriend's K770i) and it works super with Google Talk!

I can use my computer or mobile phone interchangeably and be logged on at both the computer and handset at the same time. Very easy to use.

Is is so much easier than SMS, a lot cheaper, and more flexible, as you can switch between phone and computer - and have a log of the conversations automatically stored in Gmail.

It can also connect to Skype, MSN, ICQ, Twitter, Yahoo and AIM. And Facebook also, with an addon.

    And it's completely free.

  74. Android phones is the way to go for free calls world wide with a phone. Black Berry and Iphone block you from this option. Android can Skype!! For now samsung S3 is a good bet. Kill tellecomunication and move forward to WIFI comunication.
