Google People Search

Google's search results now include a special section for Google Profiles at the bottom of the page. If you search for a name like Jon Wiley, Google will show a list of the top results from Google Profile Search, followed by links to some popular social networks: MySpace, Facebook, Classmates and LinkedIn.

If you checked "Display my full name so I can be found in search", your profile will be included in the search results. "If you want your profile to appear in Google search results, make sure you've selected to display your full name on the Edit profile page. Adding more information will help you improve your profile's rank," explains Google.

Here are some other tips to improve your ranking in Google's people search engine:

* link to the profile from other sites
* verify your name
* include a photo and enough details about yourself

A quick way to access your profile is to search for [me], but you can also go to http://www.google.com/profiles or click on "My account" and select "Edit profile".

It's worth pointing out that you need to explicitly create a public profile and the profile is not included in the search results without your permission.

  2. Perhaps a useful idea - but what happens when you don't want people to find you. Oh-oh - you think - that guy has something to hide! Well I don't feel that is true BUT I stongly suggest that people THINK before they JUMP into these shark infested waters.

  5. Now it would be great if these profiles can be attached to websites in google indexes, associating data with people. Instead of just putting high value on words based on what people search for, also put value on what people click they like (and don't like) when they are logged on with their profile. Just because it's searched, doesn't mean it's value to people.

  10. Google people search is easy and free to use. You, as the searcher simply type in the person's name that you are looking for and if you know their last address that helps.

  12. Just a tip.

The free Google Apps only allows for 50 accounts.

"You can create up to 50 user accounts for this domain. If you would like more users, please purchase Google Apps Premier Edition."

Why should this not be a good idea?
Your info is there, on FB..etc. everywhere!
if you really don`t wanna to be found, then you never should use social networks, or chat, or email someone.. this is stupid!

  34. As long as this is something you have to opt into I don't see a problem. Social media is social after all, no point getting shy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. That would be great if you'll be able to have at least two profiles: one - for friends and relatives, and another for use in social networks where you don't want to provide much of personal information.

    1. This is a very simple and easy tool to use, particularly if you are in ahurry and have minimum information. The problem might be that people might be unwilling to supply sufficient personal information
