Google Reader Lite

Google Reader's homepage has been updated and it features a small feed reader with three categories: "news", "sports" and "popular". The iframe points to this page and I think Google Reader should offer a customizable version, so you can embed it in your site.

Google already offers a cool AJAX Feed API that can be used to display the most recent posts from one or more feeds, but Google Reader's interface is more user-friendly and it lets you read the posts without leaving the page.

  1. We're still figuring out where we can best use the "Lite" mode, but you can already display specific feeds within it, for example:

  2. I'd like this better (on the homepage of Google Reader) if it didn't constantly trigger browser security warnings.

  3. You know what I would like to see? An authentic Wordpress plugin (or Ajaxy thingy for cross blogs compatibility), which will let us put little "Shared from my Google Reader" box on personal blog.

Seems trivial, yet I had to develop custom one for my own blog...

  4. adir1, that should already be possible with the "clips" feature that Reader has:

Ionut also did a post on how to customize them more:

  6. @Mihai:

I'm getting a javascript error trying to load my Shared Items feed.

    http://www.google.com/reader/lite/feed/http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user/09776139491686191852/state/com.google/broadcast

I tried playing with the URL a little (looks like http://www.google.com/reader/lite/user/09776139491686191852/state/com.google/broadcast gives the same page -- but the same error)

  7. @Caleb Lite hasn't been fully tested with shared items yet. That link should start working with the next release.

  8. The iframe shows this page and I think it should offer a customizable version so that you can embed it in your websites.

  9. Where is the "popular" feed sourced from? I'd like to add it to my actual Google Reader subscriptions (it's deliciously zeitgeisty).

  12. I am new to this but if I understand it correctly, I can embed Google reader in my website for updated content from feeds to be shown?

  14. I always like Google Reader, keeps me up to date with all my favorite sites in one place. And with this new feature, it's getting even better.

  15. Google reader's OK, but it seems to mess up my spreadsheets, particularly if i've got a lot of info on them.

  16. In any case, Michael still lives deep in our hearts.
