Google's First Personalized Doodle

Google found a nice way to wish you Happy Birthday. If you visit Google's homepage when you are signed in and it's your birthday, you'll see a special doodle that links to your Google profile. When you go to your profile, you'll find colorful confetti and a Happy Birthday message, but that's not new.

"Because doodles are such a fun part of the search experience, we thought we'd share a fun little way Google will help celebrate your birthday. When you include your date of birth on your Google profile, you may notice a special treat on the Google homepage on your birthday (be sure to sign in). Click on the doodle for another birthday surprise," informs the Google blog.

To change your birthday, go to your profile, click on "Edit profile" and select the "Contact info" tab. The tab lets you enter some information that can be shared with your contacts.

  4. I think it would be better if Google will concentrate its time on developing more compelling features, not wasting time on these boring bullshit doodles.

  5. Clever little touch.
@ anon & shimmy: are you paying the salary of google's employees? Nobody makes you use Google. Lighten up a little.

I think its a fun touch, the more birthday wishes one gets the happier the birthday is.

  9. That's cool and why not. If you not logged in, you won't get it. It had been scary if it was without a login :O

  12. One of the first person who realized it is Danny Brown. Already knew it before the announcement.

And actually, Google Profile already told us about it - on Edit your profile > Contact info > Birthday: (Look below) "So your friends and Google can wish you a happy birthday."

  13. Um...yeah. That's a bit creepy. Google does not need to know when my birthday is. Would you like my Social Security Number as well?

  14. We have had this feature on our intranet for a couple of years now - baloons with birthday greetings popping up on the front page. The reaction among the employees are like on this page, some think it's fun and others think it's waste of time. We have the possbility to choose "I don't want a birthday greeting"...

  15. Is this a variation on how many google engineers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

  16. @Yochanan: Google doesn't require your birthday, but this only happens if you provide it.

I used to be a member of a few forums who sent you an email on your birthday if you'd given that information to them. Given these were smallish forums by internet standards, it was quite friendly really.
