Chrome Extension for Google Keep

There must be an internal contest at Google for creating Chrome extensions that save links. After "Save to Google" and "Save to Inbox", there's now a Chrome extension for Google Keep that lets you create notes about the page you're currently visiting. "The next time you're on a website that you want to remember or reference later on, use the new Keep Chrome extension to add it — or any part of it — to a note in Keep. Just click the Keep badge to add a site's link to a note, or select some text or an image and create a new note from the right-click menu," suggests Google.

If you have an Android device, you can now create notes directly from your favorite browser: just use the sharing feature and pick Google Keep. You'll be able to write your note right inside Chrome and other browsers, without having to open Google Keep.

Another useful feature in Google Keep: you can now add labels to your notes as #hashtags. For example, you can write: "#work #todo #readlater" and Google Keep will add 3 labels to your note. The nice thing is that Google Keep uses autocomplete, so you can quickly select an existing label. If the label doesn't exist, you need to click the "create" option and the hashtag will become a link.

  1. Maybe they're planning on unifying them into one link saving thing, but want people to be able to use the interface they find most comfortable.
So, it'll show in Inbox, Keep, and Saved, but all be served from the same place.

  3. I'm baffled by why we need three extensions - keep, inbox, save.... I would've hoped that they would all go to the same place. The fact that all three extensions appeared within days of each other makes me assume there's something bigger going on...... or it's a massive case of "hello right hand, meet left hand, and whilst we're at it let's introduce previously unknown cousin middle hand".

    2. Well Google has always done the "let's make 5 versions and see which sticks" method. Sometimes they are all at the same time (like this) or over years of failures.

      Some examples:

      Chat
      - Hangouts
      - Google+ Huddles/Messenger
      - Google Talk

      Social
      - Google+
      - Orkut
      - Wave
      - Buzz
      - Jaiku

      Photos
      - Google Photos
      - Google+ Photos
      - Picasa Web Albums

      Notes/Tasks
      - Google Keep
      - Google Tasks
      - Google Notebook
      - Scratchpad

      Bookmarks
      - Google Saves
      - Google Stars
      - Google Bookmarks
      - Chrome Bookmarks

      Personal News
      - Google Reader
      - Google+ Sparks

I think you get the point XD

  4. It's my guess that Google will phase out chrome://bookmarks/. I think they figured out that a need to store bookmarks implies in fact a shortcoming of Google Search. Sharing bookmark-maps was discontinued very rapidly for this reason I guess.

The keep app is more logical. It gives you the opportunity to save a link and add valuable information for yourself and the ones you share with. Big question is whether this information will be used in Search....

Anyhow, the fact that users can add reminders (time or location based) makes this more useful than previous apps.

  5. Baffled is a good word. Having been bitten by shuttering of Wave and Reader, i'm loathed to pick one until Google shuts down two of the three. I'm not holding my breath that merging will happen. Keep seems to be the logical end-point; however, logic doesn't dictate business decisions.

    1. I don't use the other 2 but I use Keep all the time an love it. If you are struggling to make a decision on what one of these to use, I would personally recommend Keep.

  6. Hasn't this been Google's MO for a while though (or maybe even since they first branched out from search)? Their teams have the autonomy to create whatever app they want, but it always seems to be in a vacuum. So this overlap/confusion is usually the result especially for us external users.

I've been a Pocket/Read It Later user for years. But with this extension I might actually start using Keep as much or more than Pocket (I have a LOT of history built up in Pocket though). If Keep could add bulk/tag-level sharing (just submitted through Feedback), that might sway me completely.

  9. The candidates can also view their CBSE results on cbse.nic.in. The candidates can also get their results via SMS. No official date for result declaration has been announced so far. Therefore, the speculation over the CBSE 10th and 12th result date that exists is high. cbseresults.Nic.In/, cbseresults.nic.in, www.cbseresults.nic.in
