YouTube updated its mobile site available at m.youtube.com to include all the videos from the desktop version and to provide access to your account, the option to rate videos and post meaningful comments. To use the mobile interface, you need a phone that is able to stream 3GP files over RTSP.
But there's a better way to play YouTube videos from your mobile phone: a Java midlet currently available for some phones from Sony Ericsson (K800, W880) and Nokia (S60 3rd Edition phones: N73, N95, E65, 6110, 6120). The JAR file for Nokia phones can be found here, in case you want to test it on unsupported phones. YouTube's mobile application also lets you upload videos from your phone. To install it, just go to m.youtube.com/app on your phone and follow the steps described in YouTube's help center.
"You may be wondering, Is YouTube for Mobile the same as what's available on the Helio Ocean or Apple iPhone? In a nutshell, yes -- YouTube for Mobile is all about bringing video to mobile phones. We believe in providing the best user experience possible for all users, which in some cases means different YouTube solutions for different phones," explains the YouTube blog.
For windows mobile devices use the JBLEND java emulator and please DON'T install it on the card but in the internal memory! Best revision here: http://www.4shared.com/file/62502800/f4dd925b/SJ_JBlendJava_0_0_20080507_1_1.html?s=1
A few days ago, I was surfing the web and I found out a project that works over most mobile phones which lets you know where your friends are in real time and update your status in twitter. It´s called Dimdix.
On their website they say you don´t need a GPS system to detect your location. Does anyone know how this works?
I´m using a Motorola L7 and amazingly it detected my location.
I cannot stop thinking of all the things I could do with it.
OK people. To get audio working on the youtube application, you must have your phone on "General" (for nokias). then you must check that the volume is up on the actual youtube application. if that still doesnt work, then you should consider reinstalling the application or maybe updating your phone. Hope this helped.
I've tried the app, donloaded the latest 2.0.1 on my E63, on WLAN very choppy playback. Go to the mobile version of the site or even the full desktop version, play the video embedded or even in full screen mode and it plays smoothly on same WLAN connection. Tried on 2 different phones, with and without added 4Gb class 4 SDHC, same results. Deleted app, will use web browser instead. Shame, the interface looked good, the performance stinks.
Google Youtube-app Worked fine on my HTC tYtnII Windows Mobile KPNabo but now message is "This Video will not play on a mobile network" (in Dutch "kan video niet afspelen in een mobiel netwerk")Not life-threatening but very annoying, who helps me out? MarcDings@gmail.com
