About Google Operating System

"Like William Gibson famously decreeing that the future is already here but not evenly distributed, this blog's name alludes to the ongoing rumor that Google is starting its own operating system, which is essentially already here but we don't even realize it. The site offers "news and tips about Google" (..), but the best posts have top form theorizing on what the future holds for the online operating system."

Google Operating System is an unofficial blog about a company that started as a search engine and will become an online operating system that stores and processes our documents, memories and desires.

I started this blog in October 2005 as an exercise. I've been following Google's evolutions for many years and I thought this is a good excuse to learn more about a company I like.

I didn't come up with the idea of a Google Operating System, I just wanted to tell its story. The platform is already there, some pieces are already built, but Google's operating system will continue to amaze us in the years to come. Android and Chrome OS are just part of the story: Google Operating System lives online.

You'll find news, tips, secrets, analysis, written in a way I'd like to read them. But nobody writes them elsewhere.

This blog was inspired by Philipp Lenssen's Google Blogoscoped, the best blog about Google at that time, and still exists because of a surprisingly popular April Fool's Day joke.
