Google's Gay Rainbow

It's not the first June when Google changes the search results interface when you search for [gay] and other related terms. While in 2009 and 2010 Google added a colorful bar below the search box, this year there's a rainbow next to the search box.


June is the "Gay and Lesbian Pride Month" and there are many pride parades all over the world. Last year, Google's blog included an article about gay parades and the Google employees who participated.

"Google supports its LGBT employees in many ways: raising its voice in matters of policy, taking a moment to remember the plight of transgender people around the world and going the extra mile to ensure that its employees are treated fairly."

    i just wanted to point out this is more appropriate for results such as transsexual, transgender etc... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_Pride_flag

    Let's play which one of these things is not like the other. Gender vs Sexuality. "other related terms" is a gross generalization.

    Some terms that seem to trigger it: gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender, transexual, gay marriage, stonewall, stonewall riots, queer, gay pride, lgbt. I'll bet there are others, but that's all I can find.

    I don't pay much attention to Google's banner, but have they ever done anything else like this that changes the banner based on search terms (rather than just changing the banner in general)? I know for holidays, for instance, the banner is *always* decorated. Wonder why it's not for GLBT Pride Month... maybe because it's a whole month? Or maybe because it's too controversial and they don't want to step on toes?

    Not blaming or pointing fingers or whining... just curious.

    It does not work for me for some reason.... it didn't yesterday either.

    Regardless, I approve of the decisions.. just wish I could have seen it as well.

    I am amazed how on target and fast google always is for gay issues and images. Sometimes, almost up to the moment. Keep in mind, it does not charge for this service.

    What happens when you search for vegetarianism? A cornucopia banner? Or other life choices, like heterosexuality? A string of baby toys? I support choice, but reminding us of people's choice in the type of intercourse is unnecessary.
