Gmail Available to Everyone in Egypt

People from Digg report that Gmail doesn't require invitations and you can get an account by simply going to this page if you are in Egypt. Although the Digg post stated that Gmail is available without invitation worldwide, it seems that it's not the case. At the moment, the other countries where Gmail is a public beta are: Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The day when Gmail will be available to everyone is close.

  1. Because of some technical problems with Blogger, all the comments for this post have been deleted.

To sum up, people from Canada, UK, Turkey were saying that they can't create Gmail accounts without invitation.

  3. Google Account is not the same thing as Gmail Account.

First there was Gmail and people who had Gmail had a Gmail Account. Then Google created Google Accounts that allowed you to access some of their services. Those who had Gmail, automatically had a Google Account. But not the reverse.

A Google Account can be created using any kind of email address.

Gmail Account = Google Account + email address @gmail.com

  4. I wrongly assumed that Gmail is open worldwide when I posted the story on digg. Surprisingly the story was caught up and made it to the frontpage. Here's my retract http://digg.com/tech_news/Gmail_is_not_open_yet_The_truth_about_the_false_digg_story
