Google Drive Goggles

Google Drive has the most powerful image search technology you can find in an online storage service. It uses Google Goggles technology to recognize objects, logos, landmarks, text and much more, so you can find an image even if the filename is a.jpg. The most impressive thing is that the processing happens as soon as you upload the images and there's no setting to enable.

For example, Google Drive found an image of the Android statue from the Googleplex when searching for [Android].


It also found a screenshot of Google's homepage and a Chrome logo when searching for [Google], this time using OCR technology.


"Let's say you upload a scanned image of an old newspaper clipping. You can search for a word from the text of the actual article. We also use image recognition so that if you drag and drop photos from your Grand Canyon trip into Drive, you can later search for [grand canyon] and photos of its gorges should pop up. This technology is still in its early stages, and we expect it to get better over time," explains Google.

    WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW, I read about it in the news and I assumed to be disappointed... but it freakingly works really well o.O I uploaded a set of 8 photos and 6 of them (1 being a screenshot with text) worked perfectly... WOW.

    Cool. But it would haVe pretty disgraceful for Google drive not to have the best search on the market considering it Google bread and butter.

    when uploading .pdf scans to google docs, I have found myself using the "convert to google docs format" option, thinking that the text searching feature would work better.
    but is this step unnecessary...is it OK to just upload the pdf's and let the google docs OCR feature search the text?

    Well, I have a scanner with is also capable of recognizing text passages within a document. So I scanned different documents into PDF and I can select this test with Acrobat.
    But when I upload this file to Drive the search function from outside the document (list view / not document view) will not find any of the keywords. Within the document it works again. Why is that?

    I'm having trouble sharing with classmates. I've gone through and set up "share with anyone with link'. Only those signed-in with a google account can see the shared folder and files. I can't figure out what I'm overlooking. Any suggestions
