Google Voice iPhone App

After almost two years of waiting, Google Voice's iPhone app has been finally approved in the App Store. It looks much better than the HTML5 web app and you can enable push notifications for voicemail and text messages.

Google Voice for iPhone doesn't beat the Android app because it doesn't integrate with the standard phone app, doesn't synchronize the inbox and doesn't offer advanced options for notifications, but that's because iOS has many limitations.

Google says that the application requires iOS 3.1 or a more recent version of Apple's mobile operating system. Google Voice is still limited to the US, but you no longer need an invitation to use it. Hopefully, Google will add support for the VoIP service from Gmail in a future update.

  1. I have been waiting for Google Voice to be available on iPhone, which has finally arrived. But, really disappointed to see it's still limited to US. Such a shame!

Howcome GV Mobile+ and GV Connect is available for everywhere, but not the official apps!

    That is totally unfair

  4. Sadly this has no iTouch support, and so I'll be staying with GV Mobile+ for now. However, I was really looking forward to push notifications, which the Google Voice application supports.

  5. Everything has two sides and if it gives you benefit or facility then it will definitely have loss or some lack of other facility as per my opinion. If google is providing google voice application then it is useful and beneficial application for us but it can not provide all the facility in one so its lack of facility and its second side. We should utilize its facility and positive instead of thinking that it is not providing iTouch support.

  7. Yeah, it is messed up that the phone companies can take a Google Voice call and switch it to their connection. I heard there was an app that could stop this, anyone know what it is? Esp. for greedy AT&T.

  9. This application is horrible. I'm a little surprised it was released in it's current state. Please be warned that even on wifi the app stalls out and crashes pretty much constantly. At one point it got so bad I had to remove the application and reinstall it. I don't think I've used an iPhone app before that was as buggy as this app. The only really great thing this app has going is the ability to cache and playback voicemail on the iphone via the phone speaker rather than the ipod speaker.

  12. This is only good for text. If you make or get a call thru google voice, they still take out your minute as noraml phone call. It is just foward your call thru google. Even tho you have wireless they take out some data for every single text and call. I dont really know this is worth it.

  15. You can now use Google Voice natively on the iPhone and iPad. Think Messenger for Google Voice, or GVMessenger, is a full text messaging experience for Google Voice on the iPhone with support for push notification.
