Google released version 2.0 of Gmail's mobile application for Java-enabled phones. The new version has been initially released for Blackberry phones, but you can now use it on any phone that supports Java.
What's great about Gmail Mobile 2.0? It works offline: you can preload messages from the inbox and from all your labels to read them when you are offline. You can also compose messages when you don't have an Internet connection and Gmail sends them when you are online.
The application notifies you when there is new mail in the inbox, so you don't have to constantly click on Refresh. It's now possible to save the credentials for more than one Gmail account and switch between the accounts directly from the menu. What's more, Gmail Mobile 2.0 supports Google Apps accounts, which previously required a separate application.
Some cool things to try: * scroll using the left or the right key of your phone * the updated interface for contacts which has more powerful search
To install the new version, go to m.google.com/mail from your mobile phone's browser. From what I noticed, this version is less responsive than Gmail Mobile 1.5 and it uses more data.
You can read your Gmail messages offline if you use an email client like Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. An offline version of Gmail powered by Gears is in the works.
Could someone please post the link to the .jar file here? Google does not let me download it to my Palm Centro (same for gmail app 1.5, but it works fine). Thanks!

It gives me an Out of memory error on my Razr. I've tried deleting other apps and reinstalling, even turning my phone off and on. It absolutely won't run. (Version 2.06)
Can anybody post the link to the older version? I now don't have any Gmail app on my phone. Older is still better than none.
"From what I noticed, this version is less responsive than Gmail Mobile 1.5 and it uses more data."
I've been using this new version for quite some time on my BlackBerry Pearl 8130. In my experience on my phone, it's much faster than the old version. I used to constants get "mini-freezes" where everything seemed to lock up for a few seconds. I haven't noticed it all since I updated. I had considered putting my gmail into my BIS account and just using that method of delivery instead of the app (I didn't like that idea 'cause I wanted to keep the personal and work messages separate). Once this version came out, I abandoned that idea. While I could care less about how much data it uses, I'm sure that matters to some.
It says something like "Wait while Gmail loads for the first time"... but it have passed 10 minutes, and it stays there. I'm using a nokia 6131 (i've read that it works to other people).
I've been using version 2.0.5 on my BlackBerry for weeks now. Has this version just now been released for other phones or something? I don't get why this is news at the end of October. lol.
Anyway, I do have to constantly hit "Refresh" in order to see my new e-mail. The blog post claims that users do not have to press Refresh constantly. Oh, how I wish that was true. :)
As I mentioned in the first paragraph, "the new version has been initially released for Blackberry phones, but you can now use it on any phone that supports Java."
Thanks, Alex. Actually, just for the heck of it, I uninstalled 2.0.5 and started the install of the latest version -- we've been upgraded to version 2.0.6. :) Sweet.
I've downloaded this on my V3 Razr, but I can't sign on. I get two sign on boxes, and can enter my email address, but can never put in my password. Is it possible to go back to the old version?
Still unable to save attachments!!!!!! Very, very frustrating!!!! I would give up all of these new features for the simple ability to save an attachment. Currently the only option is to view an attachment and surprisingly I have no interest in viewing the binary of a .SIS install file.
i have the samsung highnote m630 and i keep getting links to gmail but they seem to be for my browser. i want to download the app. is my phone too new? can anyone help. it'd be much appreciated. thank you.
My V3 Razr says "the application was unable to perform one or more requests because there was not enough memory. If you continue to receive this message, please visit mail.google.com/support/ for assistance.
Don't know how to fix the problem, support doesn't help. Any clues??
Anyone out there with a Samsung Rant (on Sprint) that has been able to successfully run 2.0.6 on their phone? I had to manually upload via an upload service (Rumkin), and while I got it to start up, the app appears to hang on the initial loading screen (the one stating Please be patient while Gmail loads for the first time). I let it run for at least 10 minutes, and was pretty convinced it was hung. I tried this several times, but to no avail.
So I downloaded 1.5, and it runs just fine on my phone. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong???
Am I the only one that can't login to GMail using the new app? I have downloaded the new application onto a Sony Ericcson C905 and the new Blackberry Storm (9500?) and I cannot login from either - the username/password combination is always rejected...
Freeze freeze freeze. After the app freezes the first time and you have to manually close it, it will never load up again. You have to uninstall it and reinstall it for it to work, only to have the same thing happen again. Going back to 1.5.
hi guys.. anyone know why you cannot retrieve all contacts on gmail v.2.. meaning when you reply and want to add names it gives you only t he most contacted adds and not all... its a menace...

2.0 won't work on my Sony Ericsson D750i. If I login a normal gmail account it's ok, but I can't login to my google apps account. How can I make it ok?
This new version has wasted alot of my time...the old version worked perfect, now I can't even go back to it! I will no longer use this app, and will not spend another minute of my day on it.
Google needs to look at these problems a bit more seriously! I have read numerous messages...all reporting on the notorious freeze???
Does any one have a link to the .jar file for V1.5 on the Moto RAZR V3xx. The link provided above appears to be for another type of phone because when on loaded it the up/down navigation keys do not work. Sonce trying V2 unsucessfully I cannot go back to V1.5. Regards, Tony
Can anyone recommend a good mobile webmail app? I installed roundcube on my webserver and it works great for desktop access. But since its a Web 2.0 app, my mobile browser can't open any messages. I'm looking for a good lightweight mobile webmail app to install on my webserver that I can access from my windows mobile.
