5 New Languages in Google Translate
Google Translate added 5 new languages: Armenian (6.7 million speakers), Azerbaijani (20-30 million speakers), Basque (about 660,000 speakers), Georgian (4 million speakers) and Urdu (70 million speakers), but don't expect to read high-quality translations because the language models are still in alpha. "Translation to and from ALPHA languages may not work as well as other languages, as these systems are still in early stages of development," explains Google Translate's FAQ.

Wow. How did you select the individual language from the list? I tried Ctrl+select, and it select all :-). Let me know the trick.

ReplyDeleteI used Firefox's multiple selection feature (press Ctrl while selecting text), but it's not always easy to select more than one word.

ReplyDeleteOk, I never really tried the Google Translate option before, although I have seen it on a couple different occasions.
ReplyDeleteI always thought it was just an old fashion web translator (i.e. "Hello, how are you?" gets translated "Hello, are how you?" or w/e).
It being Google I should have known better.
All I have to say is that I am impressed with the accuracy of the translations that this feature in Google Chrome puts out. I wouldn't say it's perfect yet, but I'd say it's the best I've seen.

ReplyDeleteI am integrating google translate API in a web project that i have. any idea how to link or map the languages provided by google translate API with the languages that i have in the local database? any global settings/language shortcut used by google that i can map to?

ReplyDeleteI wish there was a romanization for Hebrew and Yiddish. a good one, not like the arabic one where there are no vowels.
