How to Backup a Blogger Blog

If you have a blog hosted on Blog*Spot and you've upgraded to the new version, there's an easy way to backup your blog.

This page lists the latest N posts from the blog:
http://blogname.blogspot.com/search?max-results=N
Instead of N, type the number of posts. If your blog has less than 1000 posts, you can save this page:
http://blogname.blogspot.com/search?max-results=1000

To download all the photos uploaded to your blog, DownThemAll comes to the rescue. The Firefox extension lets you download all the files with a certain extension from the current page, so it's a good way to download all the images from the previous listing.

There's also a way to get all the posts in an XML feed. This is a better format if you intend to import it in a database.
http://blogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?max-results=1000

The number of posts can be easily obtained from the dashboard.

You can also backup the comments:
http://blogname.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/default?max-results=1000

  5. turns out, better route for me, and longer weblogs, is just to pull up by the year in new Blogger archive.

  6. Sean, you could create a HTML page that contains the links and select "save link as..." in your browser. This way, it shouldn't stall.

Another idea would be to automate the backup using Task Scheduler or cron.

  7. Hmmmm....my blog is 'hosted' by another site, not blogger. Can I still do this? And more importantly, can I save my pictures? the pictures are really my main concern...my blog address, is www.expatsinitaly.com/blog/barb

    Will this work for me?

  13. I'm with Martiner.

The XML Feed method a.k.a. the useful one has a limit of 100 posts.

FWIW, the other method has no limit.

How can I get ALL 404 of my posts in XML?

  16. Now, if anyone can tell me how to take all three of these and suck them into a new Wordpress or Moveable Type installation, you'd be my personal hero.

  18. "http://blogname.blogspot.com/search?max-results=1000"
only works on standard templates; or templates that show posts.

  19. @alfonso:

I think it works for any Blogger blog by default. I'm not very familiar with the new Blogger layouts, but I don't see why you'd change the search pages.
