The lyrics are cached so that they're displayed instantly the next time you play the same song. You can also edit the lyrics and the changes are saved using HTML5 local storage. To hide the panel, click the title.
Chris Hendry, who developed the script, plans to add other lyrics providers, allow users to import and export lyrics and to make the script work in Google Chrome.
Why would this only work on Firefox? I use a Chromebook as my primary-use computer...

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if scraping the site is a legit way to use the lyrics licensed from Gracenote. It's probably not, but I don't see how it breaks the EULA:
"You may use lyrics ("Lyrics") supplied by Gracenote, Inc. of Emeryville, California ("Gracenote") only for search and display. You agree that you will use Lyrics only for your own personal non-commercial use. You agree not to assign, copy, transfer, or transmit any Lyrics to any third party."
Alex, it's good if it so. Just remembering the time when Gracenote forced LyricsWiki and it broke many lyrics plugins...

ReplyDeleteThis is a script written for Greasemonkey, which is a Firefox extension. I use a Chromebook as my primary computer as well, so it sucks. You can try searching for Greasemetal, which is the Chrome alternative to Greasemonkey, but I haven't been able to find anything that is compatible with my Chromebook.
Many Greasemonkey scripts (or user scripts) work in Chrome and Opera. Just because Greasemonkey is the most well-known tool for running user scripts doesn't mean it's the only one. Chrome supports most Greasemonkey features, but not all of them. The developer intends to add support for Chrome in the future.
