Google promised a new Blogger interface back in March and started a limited test in April. "The new design is not only cleaner and more modern, but it also uses Google Web Toolkit, delivering the latest in web technology."
The new interface is now available in Blogger in Draft, but it looks quite different. "Over the last couple of months, we've made significant improvements to our new user interface. First and foremost, we've incorporated your feedback and made numerous fixes based on that feedback. Also, we've updated the look and feel of our new design, inspired by Google's newest design evolutions," explains Google. Blogger uses Ajax, so all the pages load a lot faster, including the post editor. Unfortunately, Blogger is still very slow when you perform a search and try to display posts or comments.
Blogger's new UI is cleaner and it offers additional information about your posts: the number of pageviews. Tabs have been replaced by a vertical menu and the list of labels is now a drop-down. The post editor is much better, especially if you use the default view. Blogger's new editor takes up most of the page and post settings are now included in a sidebar.
There's a lot of white space in the new interface, buttons aren't big enough to be readable and Blogger includes too much information that's not very useful: the total number of published comments and the total number of pageviews. The new interface is a mixed bag: it's modern, clean, faster and more powerful, but there are many things that need to be changed before replacing the existing interface.
You can try the new UI at draft.blogger.com and you also have the option to make it the default interface.

great one
is the GUI post editor working fine in latest chrome dev channel release? i just see the top part of the blog post.
ReplyDeleteAny news of a better Blogger client for iPhone?
ReplyDeleteThe interface is nice, sure, but there is little added value other than that: they removed some nice little details (like the extra url hidden in the posts' title) without really adding any new options (like the possibility to send a distinct summary to the feeds, like they do on the NYT).
ReplyDeleteThe blogger client for smartphones would be nice too.
This is a good change, hopely they will be better than existing in the future. now in my blog, I am trying the new interface. you can have a look at http://www.uipix.com/
ReplyDeleteClean and easy to recognize everything type of view.
ReplyDeleteYep, any day now... that's going to say: "Google+ Blogs" (looks like it already--a rose by any name would smell... [uh-huh, I meant to leave off the "sweet" part]).
ReplyDeleteThe current blogger UI is absolutely awful. I'm just glad it's getting replaced; at this point I don't care by what.
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteI heard that Blogger will be renamed to Google Blogs.
man, that new design is really awesome
ReplyDeleteToo much orange, anyway it looks great.
ReplyDeleteClean but too sparse. Like the other new interfaces, there's far too much white space surrounding everything, needing more screen real estate to show a useful number of items.
ReplyDelete@Sushubh:
ReplyDeleteNo, it doesn't work. I had to use IE9 to post some screenshots.

Which makes me suspect that Blogger branding is going no where. Why include all that orange if it all going to disappear in 4 to 6 weeks time.
Yes it will get integrated into Google+ but just like hangouts and Huddle it will keep it own branding.
Wow looks great i will definately have to try it out
ReplyDelete@Sushubh: 14.0.803.0 dev-m doesn't, 12.0.742.112 does work.
ReplyDeleteI was still able to work in the dev release, albeit not without a little PITA.
Looks nice ,But what happened to indic language support .I was able to write very easily in Malayalam when I used earlier version.
ReplyDeleteIs the feature removed?
Wow! Orange-on-white, light-gray-on-white and a lot of white space. This is awful design. Looks like Microsoft's Metro.
ReplyDeleteoHH THnk blogger

Geolocation by name does not work. You have to scroll&zoom the map to get the desired location.
ReplyDeleteAnd the option to manually add a location name is laughable: Add a location name and still get 'location unknown' (New York is 'unknown', I might add)
I like the google+ look
ReplyDeletei didn' like it
ReplyDeleteit is not better than the old one and it does not add any value
Nice look of blogger google is best.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I like it. It's too early for me to tell.
ReplyDelete... I also "heard" somewhere that Blogger will be rebranded to Google Blogs very soon, which probably explains why Google is working on a new image... Hmmm....
It's a bit buggy, at least in Chrome dev. The post window is tiny (my wife describes a different experience in Chrome stable) and it takes 3-4 tries to get the scheduled date correct. And scheduling the time is homicidally bad as well. Apparently not run through any UI testing before being shoved out the door.
ReplyDeleteI really like the current name "blogger", renaming all the services including YouTube and Blogger would start to make it sound ambiguously plain. YouTube and Blogger, both names just has that bit of "Google's unique excitement" to it and that's why I think the name shouldn't change. I love the new UI though, the current one is "bloody" awful!
ReplyDeleteThis is very great! It entices me to use blogger again as my publishing platform. O_O
ReplyDeleteI've had a bad time with the scheduling UI, it seems to forget future scheduling when you go publish it into the future, go back in and edit it again, and so you can accidentally publish embargoed facts. Try and play with that calendar thingy and you'll see its weaknesses
ReplyDelete-assumes 12h clock, not european 24h system
-no way to set a default location, assumes west coast US and not the EU (again)
-not a great UI for some screen configurations
-not a great UI for slow network connects (e.g 3G)
This tells you a lot about the dev team. Based in the West Coast US, big monitors, fast network connections -and not scheduled postings. It works great if your setup matches this.

I am so happy I could cry.
ReplyDeletewow vey nice!! Too much orange, anyway it looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhen creating a new post with images I have a hard time getting things to line up. Pictures sometimes overlap and I also have a difficult time place the curser in the right spot. Also, my images upload a different HTML then the old way. Not happy.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree and can't figure out why there aren't more complaints about images or tutorial sites to help people get used to the new UI. If you find any sites that teach how to gain more control over image placement, you would please share? (kellymasley@gmail.com)?
DeleteJust started using the new interface. It was a bit confusing at first, but then I got used to the whole new idea. Quite cool actually.
ReplyDeletehow did you know that Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is used?
ReplyDeleteI thing it is jquery, isn't it?
the new interface sucks, its horrible and bery unintuitive, the old one wins by miles, why fix somthing thats not broke, just terrible terrible,im sticking with the old one untill it goes
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree, but sadly we no longer have the choice to stay with the old interface. A "New Coke moment" for Google!
DeleteHow do you set the archive frequencey in the new interface? I've been looking all over. The old interface, I can find plenty of info on, but I alread new that. The new one?
ReplyDeleteThe new interface really bites the big one. Mine freezes after about five keystrokes in any new post. Maybe it's the autosave feature but there doesn't seem to be any way to disable that. Oh how I wish we could go back to the old "unimproved" Blogger!!!
ReplyDeletePS - could it be a plot to force us all to get Google Chrome?
useful post thanks...
