Add Photos by Email in Picasa Web Albums

There's an easy way to upload photos to Picasa Web Albums if you don't want to install Picasa: send your photos by email to a secret address.

First you need visit the Settings page and check "Allow me to upload photos by email." The secret email address where you can send your photos has the following format: username.secretkey@picasaweb.com, where secretkey needs to be defined in the settings.

By default, Picasa Web uploads your photos to the built-in Drop Box albums, but it's a good idea to choose your destination by entering the name of an existing album in the subject of your email.

Make sure you don't share the secret email address with other people, like I did in the screenshot above. And if you do, just choose a different secret key for your address.

You can attach up to 20MB of photos in JPG, GIF and PNG formats, which is a pretty reasonable limitation. Since Picasa Web's mobile site still doesn't support uploading photos, the new option should be really useful when you want to share photos from a phone with email or MMS capabilities.

  6. Better if it can create an album with the name of the email subject, rather than just sending everything to the drop box...Anyways appreciate the feature. Cheers

  8. I agree with Anonymous Nov 26: Picasa should create a new album named after the subject line, if it does not already exist.

  13. Nice, but here's a limitation: If you specify a web album in the subject line, you can't add comments. This is really a pain. When traveling, I want to post a great picture to my "Paris" album, but I also want to add a comment "Here I am with my new friend Monique."

Also, I'd like the ability to put the photo in more than one album, so for example, my Monique picture could go in "Paris" and in "People".

Any chance we may see this in the near future?

  17. Make sure you don't share the secret email address...

But... is this a good way to 'collect' pictures on a subject from many diferent people. F.i. i do a call-up (in local newspaper) for photo's of a festival... If I communicate the login etc.

  18. I've made a little wizard, formatted for mobile, that allows you to first upload your photos via FTP and then have the wizard email them for you (one at a time). With the hassles of email on phone, especially attachments, and the size limit, this is saving me a bit of time. Feel free to give it a try and send ideas for improvements. It doesn't keep any of your photos once they've been sent.

  19. You can upload it to any specific folder from phone, I use opera mobile and when I log in picasaweb it shows a option in page, upload to this album, by which you can share pics to specific folder.

To add tags via email, write tag in email subject and thats all.

  20. Dear Google Picasa developer,

May you please add the function of automatically adding comment using the email body text to all the attached photos? The first line of the email body can reflect to the comment of the first attached photo, while the second line of the email body can be the comment of the second attached photo, and so forth.

    Thanks a lot!

I am not able to upload by email because there is no option of "Allow me to upload photos by email." in my setting page.
