YouTube Video Editor

YouTube has a new video editor that lets you create videos using excerpts from the videos you've already uploaded. You can also add a music file from the AudioSwap library, but YouTube mentions that it might display ads if you use some of the audio files.

In 2007, YouTube launched a more advanced Flash-based video editor called YouTube Remixer, but it was discontinued. The service was based on Adobe Premiere Express and, despite offering features like transitions, captions, adding images, it was slow and buggy.

Here are some videos created using YouTube's new video editor.

{ Thanks, Kevin. }

  1. This strikes me as a very good application of cloud computing. On my 4 year-old laptop, it's painful to do video editing. Offloading that task to Google's hardware would be nice.

    Thats the idea. The cloud is here for us to screw over and over again. Isn't it great!

  4. Could this be hooked up to the auto transcription service, so i can search for a video type, then a specific phrase in the returned videos, and have this editor piece them together automatically?

  5. I would like to know is there any API available to integrate it to another sites?

  6. That's a seriously primitive editor if you compare to JayCut (which also has an API to integrate it).

  8. Where's the money? What business model supports this? Like millions, I've never clicked on an advertisement? Have you? Didn't think so. I tend to ignore them.

  9. Advertisements may be displayed on videos that contain soundtracks from the AudioSwap library

  10. This is a really nice feature... to be able to edit your own video online.. even a netbook or soon a cellphone can do this. I sure hope they add transitions and even rerendered it as a different file format and even burn it on a disc (VCD, DVD or even BD). :)

  11. I hope they expand it beyond seven videos and allow me to use any of my videos. Right now it seems I can only use the most recent of my videos.

  12. Man, I suggested this when Google was soliciting ideas for YouTube improvements on productideas.appspot.com. Only 79 people voted this idea up... suck it, haters. Glad to see this happening.

  13. Google's wasting time of crappy "video editors" that have 1/5th the features of the video editor that Amiga had in early 90s and they can't even fix the caching of their pages and loss of settings. I can't even have reliable subscriptions on YT homepage... half the stuff doesn't show up there.

    Fix important stuff... "cloud" was never meant for this stuff and it looks awful.

  14. Could one use this to get around the time limitation of youtube videos to have a full lenght video presented seemlessly in one viewing?

  15. what about loading my own audio?

  16. I'd be more impressed if they'd sort out the problem from over half a year ago now - where 25fps footage gets horribly converted to 29.97 and looks like c**p.

    I suppose so long as they're OK in NTSC-60-Land, they don't give a hoot about us poor foreigners in PAL-50-Land here in the UK!

  23. Thanks for the info. I'm currently looking for a Windows based software that can cut clips from video files.

  24. The cloud is here to stay - may as well get used to it.

    Clesh/FORscene are the gold standard regards cloud-based video editing.

    It's good to see a free tool provided to YouTube users. A little bit of time spent tidying up a clip can be time well spent... and cloud-based tools are far easier versus downloading your own software.

    Mark.

  27. even though presenting ads is a great business model, i just hope that someday ads in YouTube is not so striking.. a little sideways ads is acceptable, but i really don't like the inside video ads..

  28. The video won’t play when you make an important presentation before your boss or clients;
    You download some funny YouTube clips, but PSP shows “invalid format” when you show off to your friends;
    Someone emails you a video attachment that you can’t watch.
