YouTube has a new interface for related searches and advanced search options. Now you can select multiple filters from a category and combine related searches. For example, you can find long-form HD videos that are available in the WebM format.
If you click on one of the queries from the "Explore" section, you'll replace the original query. A more interesting option is to mouse over a query and click the "plus" icon: this way, you'll refine your original search.
YouTube adds both filters and refinements to the query and separates them by comma. A search for [slow motion, hd, webm, high speed camera] includes two filters that are treated separately: "hd" and "webm".
You can also add the name of a channel (example: [slow motion, @tpsfilmstudio]) or the name of a category (example: [slow motion, sports]).
The new features were part of an experiment called YouTube Topics that tried to help users find videos. "We know that sometimes people come to YouTube looking for a specific video, but at other times, they have only a rough idea of the kind of videos they want."

I don't like the new way YouTube filters HD videos. Before this change, when I clicked on the HD blue button or link, all playback was done in HD but now I have to manually change the playback to HD.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like YouTube is always changing something, but most of the time it isn't for the better.
I miss the option to filter for 'music'
ReplyDelete@Peter:
ReplyDeleteAdd ", music" to your query (remove the quotes).
@ Alex : I never would've guessed that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, made my day !
In this 'search options update' they missed the option to filter by length of video that was there before. And they dont seem to have option to filter by viewcount and rating.
ReplyDeleteI agree with jasonvaritekfan, it's extremely annoying to have to hit the 720p button to switch it to HD mode when I was only searching for HD videos to begin with.
ReplyDeleteFix it, youutube.
i agree with you jasonvaritekfan, better fix it first then try for new options
ReplyDeleteThe new search interface is worse than earlier interfaces for searching playlists. It does not give count of songs in playlists.
ReplyDeletehate the new layout. before I could go to a subscribed channel and see videos compiled in chronological order by folders (year sorted) and now everything is messed up because it either displays newest added or oldest added. bah! why change something so drastically! old format was working just fine and in fact is superior to the new layout. HATE HATE HATE HATE the new layout
ReplyDeletethe way Youtube searches videos sucks since 2013, during Cosmic Panda design, it has the category filter in search options like "Blogs and people", "videogames", "Pets and animals", Etc.
ReplyDeletebut now, Everytime I search for certain stuff, I end up finding unrelated videos that doesn't fit the category of the stuff I'm looking for... even today I was making an audio compilation of "Reigns epic fails" with the feature all fails are just for "No money". You know, "You die tortured and your body being food for the dogs, and your name became an insult" or wathever it said when your kingdom is bankrupted in Reigns. and even if I find gameplays of Reigns, most of the time, appears some WWE videos, and even a death scene from a TV series of a woman being decapitated and her husband died later on.
FUCKING YOUTUBE. Neither I was able to find animals licking their paws, or a cow licking it's hooves, without finding some kind of dog slave licking woman's feet or a motherfucking MLP bullshit (Normally pinkie pie) licking her NON-EXISTANT hooves.
I miss you... Cosmic panda!!!! (TT_TT)
Ah... and BTW... didn't somebody noticed that the way Youtube filters videos in duration is always "4 minutes and lower" "and over 20 minutes"? If we were looking for videos of 4-19 minutes? what the fuck can we do?
DeleteKeep searching bullshit that always will be lower than 4 minutes just to find the 4-19 minute ones?
Everytime Youtube makes a new layout, is to fuck things up.
A New Layout change should just be only for improve, not to make things uneasy and difficult to the people who used Youtube since 2006.
the sad fact is that viewers and youtubers are getting problems no matter what. Content creators used to create videos of cute dogs and cats during the beginning of youtube, later the parnership came and almost everyone ended making gameplays, and the bloggers appeared, some of them became famous. Dross Rotzank, Fred, Pewdiepie, Holasoygerman, Dalasreview.
and no matter what, the way Youtube works is to benefit those users above anyone else, almost making the others contents disappear or being unable to find their videos.
if Youtube must be fixed, it should go back to the classic layout. or just close that fucking page, and start remaking it from scratch.
