Google +1 Button for Websites

When Google launched the +1 button for search results back in March, many people wondered why the button couldn't be added to any site. Now you can add the button to your site using a simple JavaScript code, just like the buttons for Twitter and Facebook.

"+1 is as simple on the rest of the web as it is on Google search. With a single click you can recommend that raincoat, news article or favorite sci-fi movie to friends, contacts and the rest of the world. The next time your connections search, they could see your +1's directly in their search results, helping them find your recommendations when they're most useful," explains Google.

The button can be customized: you can hide the number of +1's, choose a different button size or explicitly load the button. "By placing the tag at the bottom of the document, just before the body close tag, you may improve the loading speed of the page," suggests Google.

Right now, very few websites include Google's +1 button, so installing a browser extension could be a better option. Unfortunately, Google hasn't released yet a +1 extension.

  1. +1 for you!

waiting for the browser extension so that i can +1 anything on the web...

  2. @Sushubh - I'm waiting for extension and adding of +1 as source for Buzz ;-) I think that in future we will see in Buzz something like: +1 ;-)

  3. OK, Blogger break my comment ;-)
I think that in future we will se in Buzz something like:
    NameOfPerson +1 NameOfSite :-)

  4. I agree with RMK that we will see something like that in the future.

I think Google here is trying to be a bit clever by spreading out the announcements of various parts of this service they are keeping it in the public glaze rather it just disappear and be forgotten like Buzz and Wave did.

  5. +1 because I also want the extension for Chrome... why didn't that launch with the + 1 rollout? Poor planning to not have it available right away.

"Here everyone add this button to your website, in the meantime users, you can install this cool new extension and get started using it right away!"

Not doing that is dropping the ball on what could be a very cool and useful social sharing system.

  6. I am frustrated with Buzz. I mean they have a scrapbook on Orkut and then they have Buzz.

We already had a sharing button for Google Buzz, and now we have one for Google +1.

Earlier we had a star on search results for Google Bookmarks and now we have Google +1.

Google needs to start merging their services that conflict with each other.

I personally think that Google +1 is superior to both Twitter Tweet and Facebook Like button for two reasons...

It is passive sharing. Any link you +1 is not spammed to all your followers. Not everyone wants to get spammed with links from random websites. And of course it affects personalized rankings.

Merging Google +1 and Buzz would be a mistake. But Google definitely has to decide on what they want to do with Buzz.

One funny thing I have noticed for a while now... Google has highlighted Twitter and Facebook buttons on YouTube for sharing. Buzz is hidden with the rest of the services.

Of course, Google +1 would now feature with Twitter and Facebook buttons prominently. But the funny thing remains. Google itself did do enough to promote the Buzz button on their own network.

You would never see Facebook using rival sharing buttons on their own network!

  7. Website owners will be busy now on, as Google launched their +1 button for websites. No doubt this will be the topic of discussion throughout the cyber world.

  8. There is unofficial +1 button chrome extension

  9. In the French version of help pages, they talk about an "Activity page" where the "number of +1 of your site is displayed". This paragraph doesn't exist in English version.
the "activity page" links to which doesn't exist :-/

  10. For Blogger users, just add:

    < script src='' type='text/javascript'>

in the head of your template and the +1 button will appear in the share-buttons box in the end of every post.

Obviously, Google/Blogger prepared an html tag for +1 but hasn't rolled it out yet.

  11. we can enter on post edit, or like say EETV...
    i have add the feature...hihihi \m/

  12. I see it's been added automatically to all of my blogs. Cool.

Oh, look. I see I can't click on it because it requires me to create a Google Profile which I can't do because I'm on Google Apps.

Oh my goodness gracious and heavens to Betsy and all those other old sayings my mom used to say... Google needs to stop releasing half-baked products that leave its fan-boys like me out in the cold. It's now been over a year since they promised profiles as an administrator-controlled option was coming for profiles.

Bad enough that I now have three accounts with Google.. my gmail (for non-transferrable things like AdSense), my non-app apps-consistent-username pre-conversion (for apps that didn't convert) and now my post-conversion apps username (for the apps that did convert).

  13. Google "+1 button" - Chrome Extension

The +1 button is shorthand for "this is pretty cool" or "you should check this out."

Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1's can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.

  14. How to use it with a Google Site?

  15. The +1'd list is available on your google profile as a tab:

+1 in search results in available as experiment:

  16. Here's one for WordPress:

  17. Is there any connection to a Google Reader "like"?

  18. Am I missing something here? Or to be more precise, is Google missing something here?

People "like" things via Facebook because it's part of the great Social Self Expression Game. I can see a user's likes bundled together on their Facebook profile page. Where does this happen with Google's +1?

People are not going to +1 to improve their friend's searches. It's wishful thinking

  19. I wonder how Google decides which image to show as a +1 story thumbnail on the profile:

  20. I would like to see a +1 bookmarklet!

  21. Thanks for this, I have tried it to one of my site.. but I have a question.
I have a magazine style theme and have many post block in the front page, how do I put the +1 button on each post?

    will look more at google.
