Will Google Buy Facebook?
Google may periodically sell up to 5.3 million shares of stock according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday. At its current share price of $394.98 a share, a sale of 5.3 million shares would raise nearly $2.1 billion.
Facebook, the Web site where students around the world socialize and swap information, has put itself on the block, BusinessWeek Online has learned. The owners of the privately held company have turned down a $750 million offer and hope to fetch as much as $2 billion in a sale, senior industry executives familiar with the matter say.
Well, can you see a connection between the two news? BussinessWeek says it may be. After all, Facebook might integrate with Google Scholar, Google Books, Google Groups. But $2.1 billion is a lot of money. Just consider that Rupert Murdoch bought Myspace.com for $580 million.

no, i have nothing interesting to say.
ReplyDeleteI actually have nothing interesting to say either, strangely.
ReplyDeleteI have something interesting to say.
ReplyDelete. . .
Look google is buy everything up that has very common interest to the world market today. No matter what kind of company it will be, they are bought out by them. If not in 3 years but eventually google has rights to mostly everying on the web today. So in speaking in that sense Myspace sold for 580 million now why does Facebook want so much when myspace has 200 million members vs. 39 million from facebook. Now theres lots of Social sites out there that they can buy out for a lot less money and then build it up by themselves and they CAN do it. Here for example i was looking through NEW social sites out in the last 6 months, and i have found 1 that really stood out for me is
ReplyDeletewww.my-face.us
YES, it has two of the first words to the two BIGGEST social groups in history. SO why not?....this website has everything you need for a teen, kid, adult. ANYONE can join it it has cool features e.g. video, audio, playlist for your songs. blogs, personal photos....my kids have joined it and love it its easier to navigate and its a lot of fun they say none of the garbage seen on facebook, they have told there friends and there friends so on and so forth. This actually MIGHT be the next "facebook" or "myspace" i know it is very hard to overcome that but the world is changing to these sites that no one wants to pik up a phone or drive over they want convienence. so why not buy them out NOW at a low cost for say $30 million persay to $580 million and grow from there instead of 2.1 Billion for facebook buy out the little guy and make it bigger when these huge sites are asking WAY TOOOO MUCH...
when a site hasnt reached the WHOLE world yet. Why not buy another company out that has everything already there but needs to be "re-surfaced" to make it well known the the kids today..if its free why doesnt everyone do it?...because everyone does not like change that is why. Why not join i even did just to see what the hype was about and I EVEN like it vs facebook so im just saying why doesnt google sit back or yahoo sit back and THINK instead of wasting lots of money where it could be in theree pockets and stop play MONOPOLY and buying everything and think on what they could do and explore more options.
ReplyDeleteall im saying is watch out for this site in 2 years max
ReplyDeletewww.my-face.us
you may think that. Oh no way no one can do it like facebook or myspace. WATCH OUT i have a feeling that this could b bigger
I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY! this is dumb.... GOOGLE ALREADY HAS A GROWING network sharing place called orkut... its number one in india brazil paraguay and number 3/4 in usa...
ReplyDeletewell then i think that microsoft will buy them and that is it...google just wants it for there briefacses of stuff they own thas all and they CAN AFFORD ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. so why not right but like i said before buy out another company if they are in the market for one thas cheaper and grow from there and they cna do it with the technology they have. and grow with ORKUT together and then it will be a good investment so that they ave TWO incomes coming in not just ONE.
ReplyDeleteWell its funny how people obviously say Google right? Wrong, Microsoft will palce a bigger bid and there ya go case closed we ALL no that they have way more money than google and google is buying it because they "feel" like it...Now another thing is that i dont think Mark CEO will sell with lots of partners and also lots of $$$ invested into it not just to walk away and say bye. Its nice to have someone OWN there piece of something instead of selling it for greed. Well to what they guy or gal said on the 22nd of September i checked out the site and yes it is very nice but not in competition with them no way it cant be done but not like that. Now i have stumbled on this one site that no one really knows about it yet its a great concept and they havent released it out due to "not yet finished" stated in a blog. This new site has YouTube,Myspace and Facebook all in ONE i couldnt believe it when i heared it. They say its suppost to be a big hit everywhere all over the world so take a peak at it in 1 month and see if u c the potential that i think it has to be very much in competition to the other 2 major sites....its called www.Famebook.us
ReplyDeleteNow, its really cool how they desgned it and wants the "People" to own there own Site in a way and be very popular and get noticed" is there saying there. see why cant google give them a deal and give them say $50 MILLION instead of 2.3 billion i think its ridiculous.
to the last comment:
ReplyDeleteWow i have just looked at that site and i am very impressed on the design and the easy conecpt to surf through that site i just got my daughter to join so i can see what it has in store and by the looks of it it has a lot to offer and very accessible to others. good job!.
well, i guess google is not wasting money. it's an investment to expand their market share on the web. to expand advertisement. or maybe to have a strong market specially on youth. Besides, why would buy a "product" if you can't see any significance to your needs? Imagine yourself as google.

I Think Google should buy Facebook and every other social network on the net. Each of these Social groups have a specific Niche and all would become valuable assets to google and it's investors such as myself. Im Glad I bought 10000 share's of google at it's beginnings. Free Enterprise, dont you just love it. There are numerous social sites popping up on the net. Some are pure garbage and some are well thought out site's I found one in particular that focuses on business. The world and google should check it out

I can see Google buying Wiigle.com www.wiigle.com one day, because the rate google buy online biz this days, they will dominate the world. Face book blew up so quik and i can see Wiigle.com dominating the social networking sites one day with they kind of great features the site has. Google is going to rule the world soon..Everything we do online now is going to be part of google. Look at youtube...
ReplyDeleteI suggest you all watch the EPIC 2014 short film and the recently updated EPIC 2015... Google will buy Facebook and merge with Amazon, forming Googlezon, putting Microsoft and Yahoo out of business and change teh way we look at media. It's going to be bad for America, but it's what we want.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad google bought facebook because now my school cant block facebook without blocking google too!
ReplyDeleteI think google MUST buy facebook.
ReplyDeleteMost of us already have a google account used for all google services. And now Facebook Connect means a universal login id for facebook as well as thousands of other sites (msn passport rival). So, the largest monopoly in history would be that google buys facebook, connect your facebook profile to your google account, let orkut die in peace, and make the web even easier to use for the rest of us.
I think ice cream tastes good and many other things.
ReplyDeleteTruly i hope google doesn't turn into a internet consumer like a black hole and consumes the whole internet. Within the current canal google flowing through i think in 10 years time internet=google.
contradictorily i think there might be some countercurrent flows competing google in near future.
Google is not going to buy FaceBook.matter of fact is that google has a social networking website and that is www.orkut.com
ReplyDeleteumm, does anyone know how bad it would actually be if they bought Facebook???? they are obviously working with the Alumaniti and if they buy Facebook, they will be able to look into your personal stuff without your permission. They will monitor every conversation, and every inbox... even the status updates! no joke.
ReplyDeletejust think a lil bit, not sayin you arent.
i am replying to karim's post, they MUST not buy Facebook! ^
ReplyDeletealso, i would have to say one of the biggest monopoly's would have to the the Hudson Bay Company who monopolized most of Canada around the Husdon Bay (they were a fur trading company BTW)
If google buys facebook, they'll only gain from it. Make it 750mil$ or 2Bil$.
ReplyDeleteGoogle is the most popular search engine on earth therfore, it is worth BILLIONS and BILLIONS. If Google wanted to, it could own FaceBook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter and pretty much all social networking sites and more. I personally think Google should buy all the social networking sites because it would keep the web more organized. I practically have OCD(obsessive compulsive disorder) but I'm not acctually DIAGNOSED with it lol. It would be nice to access all those websites on the Google homepage, wouldn't it? Pretty much everything you need on the web is right there infront of you. XD
ReplyDeleteHi that is a great news for all people like me....I don't know a lot about wave and thus that is very new for me...but that is a very very good news for me because collaboratively I can use their service along with twitter and many other features at a time that is nice...thanks Google and thanks web master of this site..
ReplyDeleteThanks
i think that google should buy facebook because it would make google more organized and stuff so buy facebook
