Google created a version of iGoogle optimized for iPhone, that displays all the gadgets and feeds from tab in a single column. To switch to another tab, choose a name from the drop-down displayed at the bottom of the page.
The iPhone interface has a public URL: http://google.com/ig/i, but iPhone users will be automatically redirected to this URL.
The standard mobile version of iGoogle available at http://google.com/m is much more limited: it only displays feeds and a very small number of gadgets, you need to manually add items to your page and you can't change the number of items displayed from a feed. Another limitation is that it only works in the US.

I'm not sure if Google still offers a mobile version of iGoogle. The only place where I can see a similar functionality is the new version of Google Mobile, that only works in the US.
ReplyDeleteI'm not in the US, so when I go to the Google homepage on my mobile phone and click on iGoogle, there's an almost empty page that waits for me:
http://www.google.com/ig/mobile
I still get the mobile version of igoogle (on my UK Pocket PC), but haven't been able to change it for about 12 months - it only has search and google reader on the page.
ReplyDeleteI've had the https version of iGoogle bookmarked for some time. It used to redirect me to http, but only recently it has stayed secure. Has anybody else noticed this?
ReplyDeleteI prefer my old iGoogle page on my iPhone. Is there anyway to get it back?
ReplyDeleteI'm with bflo.. I thought the standard igoogle page was great..
ReplyDeleteI tried it with my Palm Centro, the mobile notebook doesn't show in the main mobile list, but when I tried the ig version, all it does gives the main gadget names with no picture or text. I think iGoogle is best suited for PC and Mac for now I think, maybe in the future it will be good if they can get pictures and videos.
ReplyDeleteNon US iPhone uses can access Google Moble for iPhone by going to www.google.com/ncr
ReplyDeleteI gues iGoogle is ok, its not a huge deal. Google is going to have to do a lot more to make me think they are paying special attention to my iPhone. I'll hold my breadth. They are now in competition with the iPhone, right?
ReplyDeleteThe content of what is on the iPhone-version of Gmail Mobile and most other iPhone-adapted mobile pages is the same as on the 'old' pages. The only difference is that it makes use of the bigger screen and the on-screen tapping.
ReplyDeleteIt keeps striking me how the iPhone succeeds in making people believe that now finally you can read e-mail and surf on the web and play music and keep your agenda on a mobile.
The wap-version of gmail is since day one one of the best wap-pages ever made. It makes effective use of the small standard mobile screen, which in part is a result of the way gmail is organised.
Am sure this was coincidence, but within the last 12 hours igoogle on the pocket pc has reappeared at:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.google.com/xhtml
Further you can edit the content of the page.
These so called apps are being to drive me nuts. I just went to Foxnews and msnbc and they have now decided on mobile versions of those websites. I can't even figure out how to get back to the full fidelity website. I wish everyone wouldn't force a dumb down for the iPhone. The browser is real, this ain't a Treo. I know google lets you switch back, but the ones i mentioned above sure don't make it obvious.
