Gmail and Google Docs use a Flash uploader, but Picasa Web Albums recommends to install Picasa if you want to upload photos. Internet Explorer users are lucky because they can install an ActiveX for uploading photos.
Fortunately, Google Buzz lets you upload multiple photos at once and it stores the files in Picasa Web Albums. That means you can use it to upload photos, without installing Picasa or the ActiveX control.
Open Gmail, go to the "Buzz" section, pretend you are posting a new message and click on "Photo". Select the photos you want to upload, add them to your message, but don't post the message.
If you go to Picasa Web Albums, you'll notice a new album that includes your photos. Using the "Organize and reorder" option, you can move the photos to another album.

Well, im pressing on "Upload multiple teams" but nothing happened, website is bugged or something?
DeleteYes, you can, but you need to select each photo. What if you want to upload 5 photos from a folder? What if you want to select 100 photos from a folder?

What happens if someone has already filled up 1GB of picasa space ? Does that mean photo sharing option is disabled (for practical purposes) for hom in Google Buzz ?

ReplyDeleteI suppose you can't upload photos. That could become an issue, now that many Google services upload photos to Picasa Web Albums (Blogger, orkut, Google Sites, Google Buzz).

ReplyDeleteYa know they used to have a Picasa Web Uploader that worked awesome! I'm trying to find it for my new MAC but it looks like I will have to go and get it off my old one. Really simple and fast. This new thing they have is to complicated. I haven't tried it yet but it just looks like a mess.

Web albums would be much more usable if it had batch uploading and also off-site URL uploading like all decent image hosting sites... not everybody needs to install Picasa.

ReplyDeleteProblem is I had to split 13 pictures into two batches of 8 and 5 pictures. It appears Buzz is limiting the amount of pictures you can add to a post at a time. And uploading was SLOW!
So I'm still looking for alternatives. Maybe Chrome extension or even Firefox (yuck!) addon.
Yes it works in Google Buzz .. but the pictures ARE NOT IN THE ORIGINAL SIZE anymore!!! They have been reduced.. take this into account.
ReplyDeleteI use the Chrome Browser with the IE Tab Classic extension; I just click on the extension's icon, and this emulates Internet Explorer; then I can drag and drop multiple photos from Windows into Pica Web Ablums.
ReplyDeleteBlogspot creates a Picassa album for each blog's uploaded photos, and it also allows upload of a directory at a time. And Picassa lets you move photos between albums.

- Create an empty, private blog on Blogspot. (I actually keep such a dummy blog around just for the purpose of Picassa photo upload.)
- Start a new post; click the "Insert Image" button.
- Select "Upload", then "Choose Files." Browse to the folder, select all the images and click "Open."
- After all images are uploaded, click "Cancel" to dismiss the upload dialog, then discard the empty post. Even if you toss the post like this, the uploaded photos remain in the blog album.
- Switch to Picassa Web. Find the album for your dummy blog. Move all the photos from the dummy album to your real album.
I don't know if this ends up reducing the image size (see the comments regarding Google Buzz above). But they seem fine to me.
Stop suggesting using the Picasa download to upload photos. Seriously, suppose you are on some one else's computer they don't want anything downloaded. The whole purpose of Picasa is cloud computing picture storage. There should be NO REQUIRED DOWNLOADS(thats the cloud philosophy). C'mon I'm a die hard Google fan rooting for the Google cloud. Give us the efficient solution Google developers.
ReplyDeletePicasa 3 and Picasa WEb Albums are different. While the first is actually software you install in your computer, the other is a website for storing and sharing digital images. Read about what they offer and how using them together can make things very easy.
