A Windows Mobile Version of Google Talk
OctroTalk is an application for Windows Mobile smartphones and Pocket PCs that lets you chat and talk to your Google Talk contacts. The software uses Jabber transports to let you connect to other IM networks (Yahoo, MSN/Windows Live, AIM), but you can only chat with contacts from these networks. OctroTalk uses tabs so you can have multiple conversation at the same time, supports peer-to-peer file transfer and folder sharing.
There's also a desktop version of the program that allows the Smartphone client to transfer files remotely from your computer.
The software is free during its beta state and it's unclear if you'll have to pay to continue to use it when it comes out if beta. Oh, and you need to have Windows Mobile 5+.
There are many other ways to use Google Talk (including Java applications that work on most mobile phones), but Google should really provide a mobile Google Talk app or at least a non-Flash version of the gadget. And an update to the Windows client. And ports for Linux and Mac OS X.

they really need to update the windows client. the latest version is no longer capable of checking for new mails in my gmail inbox.
ReplyDeleteI thought the email checking was only me, but it has stopped on the windows version, uxpected when google talk is first openned and if you force it to check
ReplyDeleteCan I recommend mtalk from mgslab.com
ReplyDeleteI recommend fring..
ReplyDeletebest mobile communication software
not on windows mobile
Deleteif you are on a http only network (some providers restrict traffic to allow only http) you are screwed with the normal jabber protocol.
ReplyDeleteyou will need a jabber client for your mobile which supports the http-binding spec. for example, check out mgtalk-http or the latest version of talkonaut which also supports http-binding.

Fring is good
ReplyDeleteOctrotalk completely messed with my Gmail. Gmail on 3 separate systems and two browswers is unresponsive after one click from the inbox.
ReplyDeleteI used Ork for a few hours and had to restart my device 7 times. installed fring and not a single problem. Fring is also half the size and uses less memory to run.
ReplyDeleteWith OctroTalk if I use GTalk/GMail account with large contact list/buddy list, at times the device can’t handle it. Use a new GTalk/GMail account. Or go to Accounts and Register a new octro.net account. Use this account and use Add Buddy to add your Gmail buddies. TS
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say thx because i was just about to get it but now that I know it sucks I. Not . Thx again !!!
ReplyDeletego fring or go home
ReplyDeleteI am home. fring does not work on Windows mobile
DeleteWaiting for Google to release GTalk for windows mobile.
ReplyDeleteGopichand Pai
Common Google. No one gets what K.I.S.S. is all about, but you. Please, for the love of all that is worth a damn, release a Win Mobile version of Gtalk.
ReplyDeleteI second that fah! For the love of..... what takes so long???
ReplyDeleteAgreed! its been forever!!
ReplyDeleteFring is stupid. It advertises itself in messages that you send, in your status, etc. It's annoying as all hell - and some people have expressed concern that they log into your Google account to download your history, etc. Not to mention that they theoretically have full access to your Google account, meaning they could easily market directly to you by knowing what it is you do. Let's have a WM app from Google, please!
ReplyDeleteI think most of the third party apps are no good for an mobile platform. only a few do it right and good. waiting eagerly for a version from google.
ReplyDeleteTried Fring and it messed up my WM install, couldn't TXT could check my gmail, could browse through my carrier... sucked. i'm waiting for something else.

ReplyDeletegoogle just needs to make a freakin true gtalk app for windows mobile. what are they thinking??
ReplyDeleteUsing Slick until Google gets off their butts. Not a bad app.
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think ? Google develop a GOOGLE TALK FOR WM. They have spent $$$ in a lot of bullshit (Lively, Print Ads)..They could reach few Mill People with this thing..
ReplyDeletewell ive been useing octrotalk seems to work ok but now there saleing it,i have skyfire browser and when i go to my gmail there i can use chat with gtalk on my gmail account
ReplyDeleteasking license
ReplyDeleteReally! When is Google going to do it - Google Talk for WM. Isn't it about time!!!
ReplyDeleteOctrotalk is a very good app. I have been using OctroTalk for over a year. I would almost pay the $30USD and keep using it, if it were not for the fact that the license is not transferable to my next phone. It is not worth $30 a year. I can only hope that the GooG solves my problems once again and gets a WM version out the door.
ReplyDeletetxns Anonymous...
