There are many Google+ Photos features that are missing from Google Photos. You can remove a few features from the list: reordering photos in an album, changing the album's cover and editing the timestamp for photos.
Just click the new "edit" button when opening an album and reorder photos using drag and drop. You can also add photos from other albums.
Open a photo, click the info icon and then click the edit button next to the date and time if you want to change them.
Another recently added feature: changing the album cover. Open a photo from an album, click the 3-dot menu icon and select "use as album cover".

I'm really waiting to see some of the features from Picasa Web make it into GPhotos. Like adding date, description, and location to an Album. And I wish they would add private tags (in Picasa Web tags are public so they are of little use for organizing personal photos) and a way to tag people for your own reference - like my kids who do not have a G+ account (the internet will probably be vastly different place by the time they are old enough to have their own accounts).
ReplyDeleteEric - Im speculating that Picasa and Picasa Web Album's days are numbered. Google moving towards on an online/cloud based photo archive/album display/and edit vehicle. I dont like it...but I see that coming. What I don't get it why don't they (Google) just announce this. Picasa is free...so announcing its demise would not "hurt" anything. I don't like further investing in a product that is doomed.
DeleteNone of these Edit options appear on my Albums or photos.
ReplyDeleteAny idea on how to "force" this?
I forced a Refresh and all these features now work.
DeleteThanks.
Thank you. Still waiting for subalbums , so I can store all vacations in one album but still have them seperate

ReplyDeleteThey almost got it right - The timestamp editing does not allow for time zone changing as well, but at least it does not overwrite the current timezone of the photo.
ReplyDeleteGoogle+ Photos used to mess up the timezone, so that's progress.
I'd love to see a timezone selector and/or automatic timezone when location data is available. That would make things simple and smooth.
Still, it's nice to have these new features.

ReplyDeleteWhen will they add shared albums option? Ex: A family weekend where everyone has photos, but they can't share them in the same album.
ReplyDeleteNotice that timestamp changing is in one aspect better than Picasa: it allows time prior to 1970. That opens the opportunity to really organise your family history!
ReplyDeleteGlad to have these features.
ReplyDeleteWish there was an option to just sort an album (collection) in reverse chronological order.
Go to picasaweb.google.com - you can do it there, the new order will show up in google photos, you may have to do shift-refresh.
DeleteI tried this a couple of times but it isn't working on existing albums... and also on shared albums
DeleteDo you have any additional details? I would appreciate that!
DeleteI sort the photos in picasaweb in reversed chronological order. But when I come back to google photos, they are still in chronological order, no matter I refresh it or shift-refresh it.
DeleteAlso waiting for sub-albums, and also ability to remove or hide location like G+ Photos has.
ReplyDeleteI really miss the ability to sort albums in such a way that the most recent photos are displayed first.

ReplyDeleteHi I added photos to my google "collection" these photos aren't showing in my picassa webalbum so can't reorder them. Is this a glitch or is there a delay. Bring back the reorder function or ability to set default that newest show at the start.
ReplyDeleteNow that they will kill Picasa web album by 15/Mar/2016, it means there is no way to sort the thousands of photos by date (oldest/newest) and by filename. When will they bring that basic feature to Google Photos? This is the most requested feature and nothing seemed to be done about it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the thumbnails is just so huge! Couldn't they come up with variable size thumbnail for preview? Smaller thumbnails means can see more photos at a glance.
I had organised my Picasa Web albums in order i.e. from Childhood photos up to February 2016. They are all over the place now. Is there some way that I can move these albums in the order of my preference in Google? Going by the questions I have just read, I don't think that I can.
ReplyDeleteApparently google photos is just a poor service a they arent replying to the user demand.
ReplyDeleteClearly we want to be able to organize our photos-Please allow us to rearrange there order.
I tried picasaweb and the changes do not save no matter how many shift-refreshes
I am not tech savvy at all...I want to organize my photos into albums, not by date, but by content such as "Me", "Jack", "Animals", "Family" etc. So when I create these albums, I still have a pool of 1000's of photos to go through. They don't MOVE the photos from the pool, they just copy them into the album. It's impossible to know which pictures I've already put into an album. This is too complicated for me...HELP
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this wonderful article really!
If someone want to know more about photo albums I think this is the right place for you!
Can I sort my Google Photo albums by the album name?
