EBCD is a valuable boot CD, intended for system recovery in the case of software or hardware faults. Using EBCD, you can:
* recover deleted file, even file re-deleted from Windows Recycle Bin
* wipe single file or a whole disk so that it will be impossible to recover it in any way
* recover data from accidently formatted disk
* recover master boot record of HDD
The CD includes: DOS v7.10, Volkov Commander, FDisk, SCSI disk support, NTFSDOS read-only version, NT password recovery, NU DiskEdit, NU Unerase, NU Unformat.
Download ebcd-0_6_1-pro-sfx.exe [EBCD 0.6.1, 17 MB, alternate locations], run it, select a folder for installation, go to the folder and run makeebcd.exe. You will have a 60.4 MB ISO you can burn on a CD.
Note: The CD hasn't been updated since 2004 at the software's homepage and the download location you can find above is one of the few still available.

Hey Alex,
ReplyDeleteI use the EBCD all the time. It hasn't been updated since 2004 but it still works great.
I've created a walkthrough on how to used it here (well, at least the password recovery portion):

The download links from EBCD site seem to work. You should try the Pro version.
ReplyDeletethe sites changed nd its not free anymore huh?
ReplyDeleteHi Alex,
ReplyDeleteThis is the best thing that has happened to me in life.
I love the application, it is awesome. It allowed me to copy files from a laptop that has corrupt registry and would not allow to login into Windows.
I highly recommend this to everybody and anybody who works with computers.
Thanks,
Ebaad.

ReplyDeleteThanks....Its great.....!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOn my computer, when it gets to the part where it asks to choose a partition, there are none listed. When I type it in manually, it won't except it. What do I do?
ReplyDeletehi guys, I have no cd/dvd rom on my laptop or a floppy drive. Also the usb cannot be made to boot first in the bios.So as far as I know the only option available to me is to net boot the image of this program.Does anyone know anywhere that has a tutorial on this ?
ReplyDeleteI have no access to the windows xp so this is my last hope as a floppy or cd /dvd rom would cost more than the lappy is worth !
Many thanks!!
I have seen the development of this product over many years, and many products come and go in this volatile market place, but what has kept EBCD here was two things; it being a strong utility and more importantly it being free. Alas, all things must change, the software has now lost its "freeware" status and the tools are starting to lack in updates. This software is still useful and I give the developers all due glory and respect but I will not purchase this software (somewhat spoiled from freeware).
ReplyDeleteMost things of value in life are not free. EBCD is one of these. Open your wallets people. The good folks who made and maintain this program deserve your support.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't work for me - when it gets to the 'mount' section - there are no drives listed to mount. I even told it to check for SCSI driver and it found nothing.
ReplyDeleteI should note that I have a RAID controller in there that is set to mirror two drives. I don't know if this is causing the issue. I'd REALLY, REALLY like to get my password unlocked...please!
